It capped the drive in which every Phillipsburg back had a hand in.

Especially tough in the march were junior Doug Maczko; senior quarterback Brian Dominic, a sturdy 196-pounder, and Sam Farina, a shifty 160-pound-er. Maczko had 26 and Farina 20 of coming back out to finish the game." Meanwhile, the Phillipsburg team was ordered by its Coach Mickey Frinzi to the bench. Moments after the Dieruff team was hustled into the lockerroom, Bednarik came out and walked over to the Phillipsburg bench. "They (the officials) told me that the game was forfeited," dressed in game gear and were going back to their school to shower. There was no doubt that the game was a hard-hitter.

It was a defensive struggle for most part, with neither offensive unit able to get a drive under way. But the Stateliners had the best of it and finally got on the scoreboard with 1:58 left in the third period. They did it with sheer power, driving through the Dieruff defense just as Dieruff did against Liberty two weeks ago. Phillipsburg marched 84 yards on 13 plays, all through the middle. Don Jessamine, a senior back, scored the only touchdown on a nine-yard run through a hole was practically none in the opening half.

The Huskies man aged Just seven yards on the ground in the first 24 minutes. The Huskies' defense was tough and three times recovered Phillipsburg fumbles, but it didn't help. Nick Zaccaro recov ered two and Dan Lagaosky had the other. One of Zaccaro's re coveries was at the Phillipsburg 27, but the Huskies couldn't cap italize and moved only to the 23. Phillipsburg had chances in the first half as welj and its offense couldn't take advantage either.

Bob Clymer, a tough Stateliner end, recovered a Dieruff fumble at the Huskie 22. "I had every intention of the 84 yards. The Dieruff offense could never get started and junior quarterback John Bednarik had one of his most uncomfortable nights ever. The Phillipsburg defense continually pressured Bednarik and in the first half alone, the Stateliners tossed him for losses that totaled 29 yards, Nazareth Wins ampton Poconos LNLTit rvr v.

i 4, iated with the Trenton chapter of New Jersey Football IMi-cials, as were the rest of his crew, would not comment on the incident. "I'll file rhy report with the state in the morning," he said. But Farkas did explain that the score would stand 7-0, Phillipsburg. It is ruled a forfeit, he said, but the score stays as it was when the "walkoff" took place. It would be scored a 1-0 victory if Dieruff had been in front.

"We're not a bunch of quitters," Bednarik told his team in the lockerroom as he tried to settle them before returning to Allentown. The Huskies came Colgate Defeats Lafayette Continued From Page C-l went into his end zone to kick The ball squirted off the side of his foot and was downed on the 19. Colgate scored six plays lat er, with Dom Fischer plunging in from the 1. "Take away those two plays the penalty and the kick and we outplayed them hands down," Gamble said. And he was right.

Lafayette got into Colgate territory seven different times after that and kept the Raiders pinned down. Lafayette's only touchdown of the day came with nve seconds left in the half. The Leopards drove 51 yards after a Colgate Dunt all eight plays in the drive were Ed Baker passes.

He hit Bob Donofrio once and Mike Miller twice, and finally, he con nected with Zimmers on a 15- vard scoring play. Colgate had a serious bid in the third period, when it drove to the Lafayette 4. But Goepel fumbled, and Charlie wyienus recovered for the Leopards, who then drove to the Raider 44, where a third-and-inches bomb to Miller went just off the split end's fingertips as he made a divine attempt, at the goal line. But on the third play, Zaccaro pounced on a Phillipsburg fumble and the Huskies halted the threat. Clymer also figured in what looked like a Stateliner touchdown late in the third quarter.

He picked up a loose ball at the Dieruff 39 and ran into the end-zone. The officials ruled, however, that Clymer was down at the recovery spot. Just before the Huskie "walk- off the Stateliners were driving again. They got the ball on a punt at the Dieruff 41 and with Maczko, Farina and Jessamine cracking the Huskie line, Phillipsburg got to the 25. Farina only 37 seconds left on the clock, DiYanni hit Wheeler with a six- yarder for the fined TD.

DiYanni also passed to Kevin O'Neill for the last two points. So remarkable was the entire Muhlenberg comeback in the second half that the only mis fortune belonged to Tryg Klep-pinger. The sophomore place-kicker, who almost had become automatic, missed the conversion after the second Mule touchdown, ending a string of 27 in a row. He booted successfully after Hastie'sTD. Illustrating graphically the Mules' resurgence are the second-half statistics.

The Middle Atlantic Conference Southern Division rushing leaders ripped through the Diplomat defense for 260 yards, with 178 coming after intermission when the blocking had become more crisp. Ziatyk tallied on runs of 5, 10 and 13 yards and had 155 yards total although he carried the ball only twice after intermission. He also picked off an interception, one of four by the alert Northampton defense. The entire Kid team was su perb as it boosted its record to 5-3-1 with only Catasauqua re maining on Thanksgiving Day.

The Kids rushed for 351 yards while on defense they limited the Mountaineers to only 57. Mel Abel, Stroudsburg big full back, and Art Owens, a speedy halfback, were checked all night by Coach Lou Wolfs team. Northampton had some trouble adjusting to Strouds burg defense in the opening period, but the Kids got going when Paukovits intercepted a Lee Anthony pass at his 9. They moved the 91 yards in 11 plays, with Ziatyk pounding out 59 yards and scoring from the 5. John Wolfer had 18 yards in the drive on three carries.

Twice more in that period the Kids reached the end zone. They went 81 yards on seven plays, with Ziatyk running for 52, in eluding the last 10. His run for the two-point conversion failed and Northampton led 14-0. With 1:28 left in the half Paukovits tossed a 14-yard pass to Joe Geosits to make it 20-0. John Wolfer's interception at his 45 had ignited the drive, and this time Ziatyk carried four times for 26 yards, giving him 137 at the break.
