Bloodstock President Richard Broadbent III and Robert Hagopian, president of the Horse Center, announced the bid at a Lexington news conference. The proposal breaks down to about $3 a share for the 8,901,666 common shares of the stock owned by Leslie Combs II and his son Brownell Combs II. The Combses announced Monday they were selling their shares, which total 63.7 percent of the shares, for "personal reasons." The stock was originally offered in November 1983 for $12 a share but quickly fell to $6 and has floated around $5 this year. Hagopian and Broad-bent said they did not believe the offer was too deals in 16 of the top 25 metropolitan markets will help cut te losses, but Solerwitz said the extra ticket revenue would have made it financially easier on the promoters.

LAS VEGAS Willie "The Cannon" Shannon, a former light-heavyweight boxer, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for kidnapping and beating a woman in October 1983. Shannon, 33, must serve at least five years before he is eligible for parole. A jury acquitted Shannon of sexually assaulting the woman in a restroom at a North Las Vegas City Park. Talks between horse trainers and immigration officials fell apart, again raising the possibility that a massive raid by the Border Patrol could end the season at the Del Mar Race Track.
