Tbs election yesterday wax carried on, ui carried through, in tha beat spirit, and in a manner that made it palpable from the start that it was the fixed determination of the peo ple of New Orleans to take matters into their own hands, and to fettle for themselTes, as being the parties most deeply interested in toe result, tbe important issue of the day. It was plain to all who visited the polls during the progress of the balloting, that this election was going forward upon a principle.

There were evidently heatt, soul determination in it and one could see that any attempt to resist or impede, to stay or to defeat the clearly "demonstrated will and wish of the great body of the voters, would be met with tbe sternest and most practical rebuke. I bus, we are happy in having it in our power to say, there were no such scenes of riotous disorder as we, unfortunately, have sometimes been compelled to witness and to deplore. The people went steadily up to the work before therrf, and accomplished it From the returns given below, it will be seen how folly and completely they ac complitthed it The ticket the whole ticket with the exception of one caudidate the ticket published in this journal, as headed with the name of George Y. Bright for corder of the First District, has been hand, eomely elected, and the city has thus made choice of a Council upon which it is content to rely.with the fullest confidence for such reforms in the administration of our munici cipal government for the coming year as shall appear to be needed, and, therefore, to be.imperatively demanded by the people of New Orleans. We cordially congratulate them upon the result of their devoted and patriotic labors, and trust that the end will demonstrate the wisdom, and vindicate the policy of their choice.
