Both the Knicks and Boston Celtics have four games to play.

The Celtics would win the division if the two teams finish tied. Xavier McDaniel scored 10 of his 21 points during a 20-8 run in the third quarter that gave New York control of the game. Gerald Wilkins led the Knicks with 22 points, Patrick Ewing had 20 points and 1 5 rebounds and Kiki Vandeweghe scored 1 9 points. CELTICS 109, BUCKS 100: Kevin McHale scored 26 points and Reggie Lewis 24 as Boston breezed to its fourth consecutive victory and 1 1th in the last 12 starts, while Milwaukee tied a club record with its 1 1 th loss in a row. The Celtics, keeping alive hopes of overtaking New York for the Atlantic Division title, built a 25-16 first period lead and a 52-31 advantage at halftime en route to their 14th consecutive Boston Garden victory over the Bucks since April 12, 1985.

NETS 110, CAVALIERS 86: Drazen Petrovic got hot from long range and scored 24 points as New Jersey improved its chances for its first playoff berth since 1 986 by defeating Cleveland. The victory was the sixth in seven games for the Nets (37-40), who have a one-game lead over Atlanta and a 1Vi-game edge over Miami (36-41) in the race for two playoff spots in the Eastern Conference. The Nets have five games left. HEAT 108, BULLETS 93: Miami inched closer to its first-ever playoff berth, beating Washington behind a 24-point performance by Rony Seikaly. The victory enabled Miami (36-42) to move within a half-game of Idle Atlanta (36-41) for the eighth and final Eastern Conference playoff spot.

New Jersey holds the seventh position with a 37-40 record after beating Cleveland. PISTONS 125, HORNETS 106: Joe Durnars' 32 points led Detroit to their highest scoring total of the season in a rout of Charlotte. The Pistons, who stayed one game behind Boston in the race for fourth place in the Eastern Conference and homecourt advantage In the first round of the playoffs, extended their winning streak to four games. Detroit's previous high score was 1 23 points against Utah on Nov. 15.

The Hornets (30-47) dropped their sixth straight game on the road, where they are 9-30 this season. BULLS 108, PACERS 96: Michael Jordan scored 35 points, including nine straight for Chicago down the stretch, leading the Bulls to a win over Indiana. Reggie Miller scored 26 points and Detlef Schrempf had 1 7 points and 1 0 rebounds for the Pacers, who now lead New Jersey by a half-game, Atlanta by 1 'a and Miami by two in the Eastern Conference standings. Larry Walker's RBI double put Montreal ahead in the fourth and Spike Owen chased Gooden with an RBI single in the seventh. CARDINALS 2, CUBS 1: Rex Hudler and Ray Lankford hit consecutive doubles in the 11th inning as St. Louis spoiled the Cubs' home opener.
