Lee was honored at a National Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss birthday eventat Harmony School of Excellence in El Paso recently for her book, of the Sea The 15-year-old home-schooler from Pinetop was the guest author at the event.

of the Sea is her first published book with a little help from her sisters. Brisa Lee, 17, painted the cover art and Maria Lee, 14, edited. Daniela took questions from teachers and some of the 700 students at the school who read her book before the event. The book is available on Amazon.com. Here is an excerpt: through the spyglass, Joshua could make out something on the horizon.

could it possibly be, he thought to himself. If it was another ship, it was nothing much to worry about. He could sail away. For, you see, Joshua was by nature a very solitary animal. He did not care for company, or so at least he thought.

Besides, no human could understand that this was indeed his own ship, and he was no ordinary dog, but a captain. was a bit prideful of his ship. But who could blame him? He is quite an accomplished dog. Not many dogs are captains. continued to stare through his spyglass.

Now, the speck looked different. It was no longer just a speck. It was a shining, metal structure, with spines sticking out from all sides. suddenly dropped his spyglass. he shouted.
