Mayer is president of the Women's Art Association of New York, and her husband author of several standard books on art techniquesis beginning work this Fall, under a Guggenheim; Foundation grant, on research into the permanence of casein painting. Highspots of the evening were the review and criticism of a number of new paintings by members, and a schqlarly presentation by Dr. John R. Tuttle of "Some Aspects of Medieval Art." The speaker more than met this, and enriched the art knowledge of his listeners. He buttressed his spoken words with a wealth of illustration photographs of stained glass windows from the famed cathedrals of the Old! World, of medieval architectural triumphs, and with rare books and illuminated manuscripts, all from his private collection. For good measure, pages from some ef these latter beautifully photographed in color by Carleton Burke were projected on a screen.

Vicepresident Paul W. Tucker presided in the absence of President Emily Harris. Officers' reports showed the club to be in the most prosperous and progressive period of its history, with over 80 active members. The Fall and Winter season will bring some outstanding club exhibitions, and plans are under consideration for local emphasis on National Art Week, early in October. Favorable comment was heard for the exhibit at the recent Chemung County Fair, with 34 paintings filling all available space in the club's permanent booth.

New I displays in the local hotel lobbies will consist of watercolors by Helen Bjorvand at the Mark Twain and watercolors by Theodore Van Brunt at the Langwell.
