Reckord, State adjutant general, said Ioday Maryland National Guard will bo revamped to meet "the requirements of modern warfare" on March 1. It is part of a nationwide program. The reorganization will mark the end infanlry regiment as the principal Army fighting organization. And the State guardsmen will get an additional missile battalion, the third. The revamping is simitar lo the adjustments made by the regular Army.

It is expected lo be com- pleled in lime for field Iraining Ihis summer. This will be the first major overhaul of the 29th Infantry Division, divided between Maryland and Virginia, since early World War II days. The principal changes: 1. Two infantry regiments, the 115th and 175th, will be replaced by three smaller fighting groups of company-size units each. The infantry regiments will become non-tactical combat arms regiments.

The 1st Battle Group of the 175th Combat Arms Regiment will replace the J75th Infanlry Regiment with headquarters at the 5th Re ment Armory, Baltimore. The 1st and 2nd Bat'tte Groups of the 115lh Combat Arms Rcgi ment will be subsliluled for th 115th Infantry Regiment wi(h headquarters at Towson and Salisbury respectively, plus units in Catons' ville, Frederick, Kensington, Silver Spring, Hyatlsville and Eastern Shore towns where units arc presently located. 2. A Inird ballaiion will be add ed lo Maryland's part of the artil lery of the 20th Division. The divi sion presently consists of a headquarters battery and two battalions, the 110th and 224th, of 105 mm howitzers.

Under the revamped program, each of battalions will have two firing batteries, with the 155 mm howitzer added lo the mm howitzer.
