The weekend starts with Bud Pole qualifying for the Bully Hill Vineyards 150 on June 25 at 2:15 p.m. followed by practice for the Lysol 200.

The schedule for Saturday, June 26, includes qualifying for the Lysol 200 at 10:45 a.m., the Bully Hill Vineyards 150 race at 1 p.m. followed by the Senior Championship Racing Association event. The Lysol 200 NASCAR Busch Series race is scheduled to start at noon on Sunday, June 27. Tickets for the big doubleheader weekend are priced at $50 for the three days, $15 for June 25 only, $20 for June 26 only, and $30 for June 27. Children aged 6-12 can get in for just $5 and paddockgarage passes are $10.

Weekend camping is $45. Tickets are available at the Glen ticket office at 607535-2481 or at the gate during the race weekend. Today, the SCCA Glen Nationals, the longest-running road-racing event in the United States, wraps up its 52nd visit to Watkins Glen International. Many of the top amateur drivers from around the Northeast will take part in seven 14-lap races, all on the Glen's challenging 3.4-mile Grand Prix course. Tickets, at just $10, allow fans access to all of the seating around the track and the race paddock.

By RON LEVANDUSKI Star-Gazette fZM ach June, the roar of I 2 engines echo over the Schuyler County hills in the Finger Lakes region, signifying the start of another season of racing at the famed Watkins Glen International circuit. One of the biggest events on the Glen's six-event schedule this year is the combined Lysol 200 NASCAR Busch SeriesBully Hill Vineyards Craftsman Truck Series race June 25-27. The special NASCAR double-header feature is being billed as the "Festival of Speed and Sound," as ticket holders will also be treated to free concerts near the front stretch grandstands on June 25 and 26.

The combined events offer race fans the opportunity to see all of NASCAR's rising stars, from its top two junior circuits to Winston Cup, battling for road racing bragging rights. It's the only time this year the Busch Series will take on the challenge of a road course. All races will take part on the Glen's newly repaved 2.3-mile "NASCAR" course. Appearing in concert at the end of the day's race activities June 25 are pop recording artist Blessid Union of Souls, starting at 7 p.m. in front of the Red, White and Blue grandstands between turns 1 and 2.

Folk-rocker Edwin McCain will perform at 7 p.m. oh June 26. Busch Series regulars Dale Earnhardt Matt Kenseth, Jeff Green, Elton Sawyer, Todd Bodine, and Mike McLaughlin will be among the front runners at the Glen in the Lysol 200. However, road racing specialist Ron Fellows of Toronto, who took a convincing win at the Glen' last year, is the driver to watch out for. Fellows, 39, with 19 SCCA Trans-Am wins to his credit, led 54 of the 82 laps in 1998 in dominating the event for his first series win.

Two-time Craftsman Truck even be stronger this year as he returns with a new truck out of Winston Cup driver Joe Nemechek's shop. Supporting the race event is the debut of the Senior Championship Racing Association series June 26. The IROC-style series features retired drivers that have won Formula One, CART, NASCAR, IMSA, or FIA-sanctioned international events. Heading the list of drivers scheduled to compete at the Glen are two-time world driving champion Jack Brabham of Australia. Other drivers include Jack Ruby, Gordon Johncock, Rodger Ward, Kevin Cogan and Bobby Allison.

Edwin McCain plays June 26. Series champion Ron Hornaday heads the list of drivers competing in the Bully Hill Vineyards 150. Hornaday appeared to be on his way to victory at the Glen last year when NASCAR officials penalized him for accelerating to soon on a restart with two laps remaining. Veteran Joe Rutman got the win as Hornaday was relegated to fourth. Fellows showed his versatility in winning the Craftsman Truck race in 1997.
