The school is honoring a group of alumni that came through campus in a special program during the 1970s in association with the United States military. The "Bootstrappers" were a group of active military personnel who attended Carey in a one program before returning to service. "These were students, active military, who were given a year off by the government to complete their degrees," said Donna Wheeler, Carey alumni director.

"This is the first time we've attempted a reunion of that group of alums. Most of them have never been back for homecoming." Wheeler said the red, white and blue theme was already in the works well before Sept. 11, but the terrorist attacks made the theme all the more important. Also returning for homecoming are 14 former Miss Carey winners who helped the school reinaugurate the Miss Carey Pageant after an eightyear hiatus. Today homecoming activities begin with the annual 5K Run for Hope at 8 a.m.

Also scheduled for Saturday are the annual Alumni Awards Luncheon, men's and women's basketball games featuring Carey against Loyola of New Orleans and a USO- style stage show, titled "Tribute to Our American Heroes."
