27, 1966 33 Space Administration outlined the plans Wednesday in announcing the selection of seven geophysical instruments to be used by the first two-man teams of Apollo astronauts to land on the moon, perhaps in 1969. One of the astronauts is to walk 1,000 feet away from the lunar landing site, depositing tiny minaturized sound-detecting devices called geophones at regular i intervals. As he walks back to the lunar landing vehicle he will touch off a series of small chemical charges. The devices will cause thumping sounds that will be stored recorder and transpicked up, by the geophones, mitted to earth for analysis as to the nature of the lunar surface. The astronauts also will deposit at the lunar landing site a miniature mortar device, weighing less than 15 pounds and containing four charges, each consisting of a quarter of a pound of chemical explosives.

These will be fired later, by ground command, to hurl projectiles for distances up to 2,000 feet. Their impact is expected to provide information on the moon's physical properties to a depth of about 500 feet. The instruments will be left on the moon, and are designed to transmit radio data to earth for six months to a year. Judge Young, of Lowville, was sworn in both as a judge of the court, for which the Senate confirmed him, and the presiding judgeship, to him. which He the will governor serve a full nine-year term, filling a position the legislature created last year.
