She worked with the Clover Bottom Developmental Institute and the Metro Schools. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Hershel Oates in 2000. He spent his career with W. R. Grace and retired in 1982. Jim was a devoted husband, a loving father, valued his faith, family and friends above all. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Laura Mae (Smith) Dodd; his parents, Fletcher B.

"where feelings count the most" WINTER, Ruth Marie Died on Monday, June 19, 2006 at the McKendree Village Clinic from complications of advanced Alzheimer's Disease. Earlier this month, Ruth and her husband George Winter celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Winter was born on June 6, 1918, the only daughter of Mildred Henrietta and Arthur H. Gohr. Ruth Gohr met George Winter at Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, where, in 1939, Ruth was voted Homecoming Queen. After graduating, she pursued her studies at Montefiore Hospital in New York City in preparation for a career as a hospital dietitian.

They were married in 1941 while George was in the Army. After his discharge, they returned to Cleveland, where they began their family in 1945 with the birth of their daughter Elaine. Their son Gus, an attorney in Nashville, was born seven years later. Throughout her life, Ruth Winter was a devoted member of the Lutheran Church and in recent years regularly attended services at McKendree Village. For 21 years, she worked as an insurance officer of Home Federal Savings and Loan in Cleveland.

She pursued varied interests, but especially loved reading and gardening, raising dogs and knitting. Perhaps most of all she loved children. The Winters moved to Nashville in 2000 and they joined the community of McKendree Village in January of 2005. Ruth Winter is survived by her husband, George August Winter; her two children, Elaine Ruth Winter of New York City and August (Gus) Carl Winter of Nashville; her four grandchildren, Toby and Light Buggiani, Erin and Zachary Winter. A Memorial Service will be held at the McKendree Village Memorial Chapel, 4347 Lebanon Pike, Hermitage, TN at 10 a.m.

May 9, 1921 June 20, 2006. Born in Etowah County, AL, she received her BS from Jacksonville Teachers College in Alabama and an MS from Peabody. A devoted teacher for 37 years in Alabama and also helped to open Nashville's Haywood Elementary in 1959, until she retired in 1986. Self-lessly spent 17 years with the St. Thomas Auxiliary Workers (pink ladies).

A grateful member of Woodbine United Methodist Church since 1957, where she participated in The Seekers Class, Adult Choir and UMW groups. Capitola enjoyed travel, piano, exercise, reading, and ballroom dancing. She had many loving friends through her Woodbine United Methodist Church fellowship, Haywood Faculty, the Woman's Club of Nashville, Knowles Sr. Citizens, Guys Dolls, and supportive friends from Blakemore U.M.C. She is preceded in death by husband of 27 years, Marvin C.

Pratt; parents, Irving and Mai Stanfield, and sister, Imogene Krasky (Joe).
