ALFRED Five new residence hall directors, including three from Hornell and Elmira, have been appointed to the Division of Student Affairs at State University Agricultural and Technical College at Alfred. The new faculty who joined the division this fall are: James J. Grillo Jr.

of Hornell, Robert Keener and Smith D. Murrin, both of Elmira; and Richard Kincaid of Palmyra and Paul Edgerton of Delhi. Grillo, son of Mr. and Mrs. James J.

Grillo of N. Maple Court, Hornell, is a 1965 uraduate of Hornell High School. He holds both a B.S. degree in business administration and a master's in counseling and guidance from Alfred University. Keener is a graduate of Elmira Scouthside High School and received his associate degree in 1968 from Corning Community College.

He obtained his bachelor's degree from State University College at Oswego and this past June received his master's degree in After church services Sunday, a Corning matron gave her 17-year-old daughter a stiff lecture for wearing "disgracefully tight" hot pants Turning to us, the young lady said, "My brother never gets scolded for wearing tight football pants." There's a difference, I guess. When Jolly Charley Edwards was a Steuben County deputy sheriff, he was ordered to serve some papers on a traveling steeplejack known as Sky-High Smith a 3-" day search, Charley spotted Smith at the very top of St. Mary's Church steeple shouted, "Come down this minute or I'll go up and get you!" didn't hear a word, so the Rev. William Rafferty, assistant pastor of St. Mary's, asked, "Mister Edwar3s, do you really want to go up there and get the man?" With a shudder, Charley replied, "Not at all, Father, I wouldn't interrupt his church work." Some silly stories come to this column Williams tells that she was watching the play, "I-olita," on televison Saturday night while her parents were enjoying a late lunch in the kitchen heard her father say, "That dame in the show sound like Shelley Winters." Bee-Bee called from the living room, "It IS Shelley Winters!" And the Old Gent muttered, "No wonder she sounds like her." Speaking of late snacks, there was a marvelous Elmira mother who never failed to leave sandwiches for her darling daughter and for the fellow who brought that darling daughter home from a dance The sandwiches were always cream cheese-and-nut for the girl, Bermuda onion for the guy.

Eventually, Bob Thomas got up enough nerve to ask, "Do you think your mother might leave me a ham sandwich just for a change?" "No," replied darling daughter. "Mama feels that I won't do much heavy necking with a guy whose breath smells of onion." Later, Bob commented, "Mama was right." One night at the DeWitt Clinton Hotel in Albany, I had a nice, long chat with Coming's Joe Hall Then I went for a nice, long walk and got lost In desperation, I decided to phone the hotel and have one of Jim McTighe's boys send a taxi to pick me Using the phone at a dimly-lit newstand, I put my dime in the slot and dialed When I heard a click, I asked, "DeWitt Clinton?" A half-stoned dame answered, "DeWitt ain't here right now, Honey. Would you care totalk to Alexander Hamilton?" "No, thanks," Isaid And she piped, "Come on over, anyways, we fot an extra girl." 7 When I reported the incident to Brother McTighe, he said, "You ought to learn to dial. Don't they have telephones in Corning?" told my tale to everybody in the DeWitt Clinton lobby the next morning make my embarassment worse, Jim said, "Hayes has the brass to compain about the steep streets in Albany. Well, when I was- in Corning last summer, I started up Chemung St.

to see where the Community College was being built but I came down with a bad case of acrophobia and had to turn back. That's not a hill it's a small mountain."
