A12 THE MORNING CALL, SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 1998 STATE raKsamnsiKssss Slain athlete's mom rejects eye for an eye But DA says he will seek death penalty for Arthur Bomar if he is convicted. MEDIA (AP) Gail Willard said Friday she doesn't want the paroled murderer accused of killing her daughter to die but she does pray the rape and fatal beating will "bother his conscience with holy unrest." Gail Willard said she doesn't want another mother to lose a child and she would rather see Arthur Bomar convicted and spend "a lifetime plus one i looked at Aimee Willard's family after being escorted into court in shackles. No one from his family attended the hearing. Dressed in a green prison uniform, Bomar stood with a red Bible in his hand and didn't speak. Instead as is customary, Judge Frank T.

Hazel entered a plea of not guilty for Bomar. He is charged with stopping Aimee Willard, 22, on an interstate ramp in June 1996, beating her, raping her and dumping her nude body in a North Philadelphia lot. She was a star soccer player at George Mason University. On Wednesday, Delaware County District Attorney Patrick Meehan said prosecutors would seek the death penalty if Bomar is convicted. Under state law, the death penalty may be applied because Bomar is accused of the felonies of raping and kidnapping Aimee Willard, has a history of convictions for violent crimes, has been convicted of murder in the past and has been sentenced to' life in prison before.

Bomar was paroled from a life term in Nevada. Standing with Gail Willard after the arraignment hearing, Meehan said he understood and respected her views but he defended his own position. "I got elected to make decisions and I have to make decisions," Meehan said. "I think the death penalty is justified in this 'f 1 1 I day prison. She said she had hoped Bomar would plead guilty at his arraignment Friday so that details of Aimee Wil-lard's grisly death wouldn't be heard in public.

"I can see no good in taking Bomar's life. Justice would only be served if bv 4 taking his life it Arthur Bomar could bring Aimee back to life and that's impossible," a teary Gail Willard said after the arraignment hearing in Delaware County Court of Common Pleas. Bomar, 38, turned around slowly and Associated Press Gail Willard, mother of rnurderered athlete Aimee Willard, speaks at a news conference with Delaware County District Attorney Pat Meehan (right) on Friday in Media.
