THE MORNING HERALD THE EVENING STANDARD t'NIONTOWN, THURSDAY, APRIL 11, 1S74-PAGE 33 Garden Gone Vegetables Disappear As Sinkhole Spreads TAMPA, Fla. (AP) The vegetable a a 7 7 meticulously planted six weeks ago is gone. It disappeared in a sinkhole that has also swallowed seven orange trees and is slowly spreading. "It's scary," says his wife, Lily. "Sunday it wasn't here.

Monday it was like the earth had opened up." The hole measures some 125 feet across and is about 50 feet deep. The Keens own 110 acres of pasture and farmland in Balm, a tiny communi- ty 30 miles southeast of Tampa. The sink opened about one-quarter of a mile from their home. Chalky green water flows at the bottom of the hole. An underground stream already has created a tiny waterfall inside the hole.

Cracks as long as 12 feet reach out from the expanding sink. Sinkholes are common in inland Central Florida. They are usually caused by the roofs of underground limestone caves giving way. 2 Persons Hurt In Norvelt Wreck Two persons were treated in Frick Community Hospital, Mount Pleasant, at 3:15 p.m. yesterday following a two-car accident on Route 981 at Norvelt.

on May 3, 4 and 5. During their entire period of time, live presentations will be continuous in the performance building and on an outdoor stage. Each afternoon of the festival there will be a Children's Theater, with a puppet show, children's drama and a magician. The fairgrounds will resound with the music of fiddles and guitars and the "do se do and right hand around" of the caller, commencing at 7:30 Friday evening, May 3, as activities become both lively and nostalgic at the big square dance and hoe-down, where the public will be invited to iorm sets and trip the light fantastic. Exhibition square dance performances by 4-H square dancers will start the activities.

The Fayette County Old-time Fiddlers under President Ralph Martin, will host the Pennsylvania State Old Time Fiddlers Championship Contest at the Festival. All afternoon and evening on Saturday, May 4, the association will conduct elimination contests in an outside covered pavilion at the fairgrounds. These will be open to the public. The ten fiddler finalists will vie for trophies and cash prizes in the performance building, starting at 30 p.m., and the new state champion will be selected. Some of the stage performances during the festival will be the Junior Tam- buritzans of Cokeburg, the Scottish Highland Dancers of Pittsburgh, local Chapters of the Society for the Pre- servation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America, and the Sweet Adelines, a modern jazz quartet, and various singing, drama and dance groups representing ethnic organizations and area colleges.

During the entire Festival, artists and craftsmen will demonstrate their works and techniques in four large exhibition buildings at the fairgrounds. There will be painters painting, carvers carving, weavers weaving, potters potting, spinners spinning and more than 100 artists and artisans will be on hand to "do their thing" for visitors. Many local organizations will man booths, clothed in their native costumes, to show the arts, customs, artifacts and culture that have contributed to the heritage of this area. There will be something to please everyone and much to please many at the Festival, including devotees of rock music. As the final feature, a "battle of the bands" will be presented in the performance building, commencing at 8:30 p.m., Sunday, May 5.

Three popular rock groups will play alternately to gain audience acceptance and applause that can lead to their winning the top prize of $150; the second prize of or the consolation prize of $75.
