GeF 'Is awaits bowl vitiation m-f i- 7 in I But Auburn struck for 10 points within an 85-second span just before halftime, getting a 38-yard field goal from Neil O'Donoghue and a 23-yard touchdown pass from Clyde Baumgartner of Jeff Gilligan. O'Donaghe's 21-yard field goal in the third quarter gave Auburn the lead temporarily, but the Tigers fell to 3-5-2 for the year. Allan Leavitt kicked a 51-yard field goal for Georgia in the final quarter. Pfts Statistics Auburn 17 ATHENS, Ga. (AP)- Twentieth ranked Georgia enhanced its poisition in the football bowl derby Saturday with a regionally televised 28-13 victory over Auburn but Coach Vince Dooley seemed puzzled by it all.

"I'm just like a sorority girl waiting for a bid," Dooley said shortly after his team clinched a second place finish in the Southeastern Conference race. "I haven't heard anything yet," Dooley added. Actually, it was somewhat premature anyway since bowls were not authorized to offer invitations until 6 p.m., more than an hour after Dooley met with writers following Georgia's eighth victory in 10 games. The Bulldogs, trailing 13-12 in the third quarter, got two touchdowns from Andy Reid on runs of four and 26 yards to wrap up the victory. Georgia lost the services of three outstanding runners during the first half, quarterback Ray Goff with a neck injury, Kevin McLee with an apparent broken ankle and Glynn Harrison with a leg injury.

Goff and Harrison did return to action in the second half. Georgia had built a 12-0 lead in the first quarter on a twoyard run by Harrison and a five-yarder by Al Pollard. Gaffney tossed to LeCount for one, and Green bolted 10 yards for the other after Gaffney passed 44 yards to fumbles led to a 45-yard Posey field goal and Gaffney's touchdown pass to Green wide receiver Wes Chandler. Gaffney ran seven yards to cap a 76-yard march early in the third period and then turned the quarterback job over to sophomore Bill Kynes. Kentucky tried four quarterbacks without breaking its season-long pattern of mistakes and break downs. The Wildcats reached the Florida 20 just before halftime and made the nine in the third quarter, but were stopped by the Florida defense.

Finally, running back Rod Stewart blasted three yards for a David Johnson and a one-yard plunge by Lonnie Sadler. Johnson's run was set up by a 50-yard punt return by Jay Chesley. Army narrowed the lead to 17-6 in the second quarter on a one-yard run by Greg King. The conversion attempt failed. The Cadets made it 17-14 on a 22-yard touchdown run by quarterback Leamon Hall and a two-point conversion pass from Hall to Clennie Patterson in the fourth quarter.

Statistics i IT 1 i I hi wfMY-' GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -Quarterback Don Gaffney passed for two touchdowns Saturday to lead Florida to a 48-7 shelling of Kentucky, and the Gators afterward accepted an invitation to play in the Gator Bowl. Ted Emery, a spokesman for the Gator Bowl committee, said the selection of the other team to appear in the Dec. 29 game in Jacksonville would not be made until later in the week. He said the selection was delayed by the "lack of action" by other bowl committer.

With Kentucky keying on fullback Jimmy DuBose, Gaffney threw touchdown passes of 19 yards to running back Tony Green and 33 yards to wide receiver Terry LeCount. Gaffney also scampered seven yards for another touchdown as 14th-ranked Florida ran its season record to 8-2 and finished Southeast Conference com-netition at 5-1. Kentucky's record is 2-7-1, and the Wildcats are winless in five SEC games with one left to play. Florida dominated from the start, taking a 13-0 lead in the first quarter. Gaffney hit back James Richards with a 27-pard pass to set up a David Posey field goal of 35 yards.

(AP) Van-derbilt's Brenard Wilson intercepted a pass at his 20-yard line with 3:36 left and returned it 38 yards, helping the Commodores to a 23-14 victory over Army in a nonconference football game Saturday. The interception came with Vandy leading 17-14 after Army had marched to the Commodore 26 and was threatening to take the lead for the first time. The Commodores, clinching only their third winning season since 1959, added a touchdown after the interception on a 14-year pass play from reserve quarterback David Culley to tight end Barry Burton. The loss was Army's eighth straight, and left the Cadets at 2-6.

Vandy is 64 and closes its season at Tennessee Nov. 29 after an open date next week. Vandy scored the first three times it had the ball to take a 17-0 first-quarter lead. The kick came after North Carolina inarched from its own 40 to deep into Tulane territory, a drive which started after Tulane tailback Gary Rudick had given the Green Wave an apparent victory with a three-yard scoring plunge with just two minutes left in the game.

Tulane opened the scoring with a 42-yard field goal by David Walters, but trailed 14-3 going into the final period after North Carolina tailback Mike Voight scored two first quarter touchdowns on plunges of four and one yards. Just two minutes after Walter's kick, N'irth Carolina got its first touchdown. The Tarheels took just four plays to move from their 40 to the Tulane four, and Voight went over on a sweep in the rext play. Tulane tailback Don Lemon fumbled on the Green Wave's next possession and Voight got his second score in just over one minute. The two squads slugged it out between the 30 lines for the next two periods.

Then Tulane quarterback Buddy Gilbert found the range with his passes midway through the fourth quarter, hitting tight end Darwin Willie with crucial passes that kept a 73-yard, 15-play drive alive. Steve Treuting plunged over from one yard out to cap the drive. ATLANTA (AP)-Georgia Tech's Adrian Rucker scored on a four-yard run with 1:28 left to play, guiding the Yellow Jackets to a 14-13 college football victory over Navy Saturday, torpedoing the Midshipmen's hopes for a bowl berth. Rucker's second touchdown of the afternoon capped a time consuming drive of 68 yards in 20 plays that ate up, 10 and onehalf minutes. Danny Smith then kicked the winning extra point, his second of the game.
