Deaths 6A The Star-Herald, Kosciusko, MS, September 15, 1994 Flemon Cook Funeral services for James Flemon Cook, 68, of Memphis, were held Friday at 2 p.m. at Waller Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford. Cook, a retired factory worker, died Sept. 6, 1994 at Resthaven Nursing Center in Memphis. He served in the U.S.

Army as a Private First Class during World War II. He was a member of North Oxford Baptist Church, the O.D. Smith Masonic Lodge, the Eastern Star. The former Oxford resident was also a Shriner. He is survived by two daughters, Deborah "Debbie" J.

Shankle of Oxford, Karen Cook Jones of Goodman; his mother, Perlie Cook of Oxford; a sister, Mary L. Phillips of Oxford; brothers, Robert Cook of Oxford and Kenneth Cook of Starkville; and three grandchildren. Burial was in Pine Flat Cemetery in Oxford. Frank Y. Gowan III Services for Frank Young "Trae" Gowan, III, 15, of Durant, were held Saturday at 3 p.m.

at the First Baptist Church in Durant with burial in Coleman Cemetery at McAdams. Gowan, a 10th grade student at East Holmes Academy in West, died from injuries received in an automobile accident on Aug. 3. He died Sept. 9, 1994 at University Hospital in Jackson.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Durant. He leaves his parents, Frank and Sara Jo Gowan of Durant; a sister, Sara Maxine Gowan of Durant; two brothers, Stephen Gowan of Hattiesburg and Louis Gowan of McAdams; his grandmothers, Mrs. Inez G. Simpson of Kosciusko and Mrs. Virginia K.

Rickman of Itta Bena. The Rev. Gerald Welch officiated and Southern Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. The Rev. Gerald Welch and the Rev.

Jerry Bishop officiated. Pallbearers were Brad Burrell, Daniel King, Robert Leathers, Mark Williamson, Holt Hathcock, and Bryan Davis. Honorary pallbearers were members of the East Holmes Academy football team. Harvey Kimbrough Mrs. Darene Smith of Milwaukee, and Mrs.

Ethelleen Inman of New Jersey; five sons, James Harvey Kimbrough of McCool, Benard Kimbrough of Ethel, Eddie Kimbrough, Robert Kimbrough and Clyde Kimbrough of Milwaukee; two sisters, Mrs. Lovie McFadden of Ethel, Mrs. Mary Kimbrough of McCool. The Rev. O.J.

Crouther officiated and Winters Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Wade McFadden, Fedrick McFadden, Gene McFadden, Raymond Kimbrough, Wayne Kimbrough and Bruce McFadden. Services for Harvey Kimbrough, 84, were held Sept. 8, at 2 p.m. at Chapel Hill Baptist Church with burial in Pilgrim Cemetery at Ethel.

Kimbrough, a retired farmer and native of Attala County, died Sept. 1, 1994 at the Choctaw County Medical Center in Ackerman following an illness of several days. He was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Sallie Landingham Funeral services for Mrs.

Sallie Hull Landingham, 99, were held Monday at 3 p.m. at Buffalo United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Mrs. Landingham, a native of Attala County, died Sept. 7, 1994 at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital following an illness of several days.

Thelma Bernice Alston of Cleveland, Mrs. Nola Mae Johnson, Mrs. Bessie Mae Blangor of Steubenville, Oh. and Ms. Bettie Jean Landingham of Ethel; Also sons, Jack Landingham of Toledo, Joe Louis Landingham of Ethel, and Niles C.

Landingham of Kosciusko; 41 grandchildren, a number of great-grand and greatgreat-grandchildren. The Rev. Columbus Barron officiated and Winters Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were W.T. Gregory, Turnage Hull, L.C.

Bridges, Danny Garland, Charles Hull and W.T. Landingham. Mrs. Madie L. Morgan Services for Mrs.

Madie L. Morgan, 80, of Ackerman, were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church in Weir. Burial was in Mt.

Zion Cemetery. Mrs. Morgan died Sept. 9, 1994 at the Choctaw County Nursing Center in Ackerman. She was a member of Mt.

Zion Presbyterian Church. She is survived by two daughters, Beth Boggan and Martha Wilson of Ackerman; five sons, Fred Morgan of West Point, Hubert Morgan of Louisville, David Morgan of Jackson, Dan Morgan of Kosciusko and Ricky Morgan of Weir; a brother, Dewey VanLandingham of Bahalia; 20 grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren. The Rev. Woodrow W. Bagby officiated and Adams-Nowell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

E.W. Moore Funeral services for E.W. "Wormy" Moore, 80, of West Point, were held Sept. 4 at 4 p.m. at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Palestine Cemetery in Montpelier.

Moore, a native of Clay County, died Sept. 2, 1994 at the Clay County Medical Center. He was a member of Palestine United Methodist Church. He was a former resident of the Palestine Community before moving to West Point 10 years ago. He was a retired fitter for Babcock and Wilcox Company and a farmer.

He leaves his wife, Allene Holliday Moore of West Point; three sons, William Moore of Drew, Walter Lee Moore of Columbus, Dr. Kenneth Moore of Walnut Ridge, four daughters, Amy Wilborn of Kosciusko, Betty Wood, Peggy Arick, Carolyn Finley of West Point; 20 grandchildren, 22 greatgrandchildren and one great-greatgranddaughter. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Moore Conner; a son, James Richard "Pete" Moore and a grandson, Jody Moore. Mrs. Zula Myers Services for Mrs.

Zula Myers, 69, of Kosciusko, were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Nowell Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Bethlehem Pentecostal Cemetery in Winston County. Mrs. Myers, a retired beautician, died Sept. 8, 1994 at her residence.

She was a native of Winston County and a member of Second Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, W. E. "Billy" Myers of Kosciusko; a son, Rickey Myers of Kosciusko; two daughters, Linda Nabors of Greenville and Patsy Crosby of Kosciusko; a brother, Edward Hobson of Noxapater; Also four sisters, Sudie Pearl Moss, Ruby McMurry of Carthage, Louise Lewis Good Hope, Maggie Erwin of Kosciusko; 12 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Billie Jean Wilson.

The Rev. Mike Weldon and the Rev. F. Schexnayder officiated. Pallbearers were Benny Mann, Chester Lawrence, Benard Lewis, Chris McMurry, Charles Hobson, Bill Chatman, Robert Kuhn and Johnny Miller.

Mrs. Alberta T. Merritt Services for Mrs. Alberta Trust Merritt, 93, were held Sept. 8 at 1 p.m.

at Plantation Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Mrs. Merritt, a native of Attala County, died Sept. 7, 1994 at the Attala Nursing Center. She was a member of Plantation Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Adell Kimbrough of Moss Point, and Mrs. Mary Charolette Carr of Ethel; two sons, Arthur Lee Merritt and Clarence Merritt Jr. of Ethel; 57 grandchildren; 90 greatgrandchildren and 57 great-greatgrandchildren. The Rev.

Ozell Landfair officiated and Winters Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Mrs. Ophelia H. Neal Services for Mrs.

Ophelia Haynes Neal, 95, of New York, N.Y., were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at St. Mark Baptist Church at Goodman with burial in the church cemetery. Mrs. Neal, a native of Attala County, was a retired teacher.

She died Sept. 4, 1994 at Kings Harbor Nursing Home in Bronx, N.Y. She is survived by nieces, Mrs. Clytie Mae Green and Missionary Mary A. Wise, other nieces and nephews.

Nephews served as pallbearers. Mrs. Betty N. Pyle Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Nabers Pyle, 55, of Tullahoma, Real Estate Associate needed for Attala County market.

Mrs. Pyle, a registered nurse and admissions nurse at Medical Home Health Care Inc. in Tullahoma, died Sept. 6, 1994 at Harton Regional Medical Center following an accident at her home. A native of Durant, she was the wife of Thomas R.

Pyle, a computer scientist for Calspan at Arnold Center. The family had lived in Tullahoma for 31 years. She was the daughter of Mrs. Louise Nabers of Durant and the late Issac Walter Nabers Jr. She was a descendant of early pioneer families, the Nabers and McLellans of Holmes County.

Prior to joining the Medical Home Health Care staff, she was charge nurse on the medical floor and for the emergency room at Harton Regional Medical Center. Prior to her marriage, she was head nurse in the surgical intensive care unit and head nurse on the medical floor for research and cancer drug therapy at the University of Mississippi. A graduate of the Gilfoy School of Nursing at Mississippi Baptist Hospital in Jackson, she also attended Mississippi College in Clinton. In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by a daughter, Laura Pyle Daniel of Tullahoma; a son, Jason, a student at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville; two sisters, Pattie Smith and Sara Martin, both of Durant, and seven nieces and nephews. The family suggests that memorials be made to either the First Christian Church building fund, the Meals on Wheels program or the MHHC Hospice Program with which Mrs.

Pyle was very active. Mrs. Mattie V. Ray Services for Mrs. Mattie V.

Ray, 90, of Birmingham, were held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Nowell Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Doty Springs Cemetery. Mrs. Ray, a native of Attala County, died Sept. 7, 1994 at her residence.

She was a member of the Childress Baptist Church of Childress, Ala. She is survived by two sons, Charles W. Ray of Birmingham, Ala. and Maxie T. Ray Jr.

of Bessemer, a brother, Willis Norris of Chattanooga, six grandchildren and one greatgrandchild. Pallbearers were Peter Vanderuegt, Bill Norris, Walter Hunt and David Sims. Walter Lee Snow Services for Walter Lee Snow, 74, a retired steel worker, were held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Winters Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Mallett Cemetery. Snow, a native of Attala County, died Sept.

5, 1994 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Jackson following an illness of several days. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Annie Pearl Evans of Milwaukee, Mrs. Hattie Riley, Ms.

Julie Snow of Sallis, and Mrs. Annie Jeanette Snow of Starkville; a son, Elmo James Snow of Sallis; 15 grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren. The Rev. Eddie Carr officiated.
