Schools represented in the league are: Porter-Tower, Williamstown, Wiconisco, Mahanoy Joint, Millersburg-Upper Paxton, Upper Dauphin Joint and the Halifax Area Joint High Schools. A twelve game schedule has been arranged, and teams will play each other' twice. Upper Dauphin High Schedule The schedule for the Upper Dauphin Joint High School team, Elizabethville, with home games scheduled for 4:00 p. is as follows: Monday, April 11 at Mahanoy Joint. Thursday, April 14 at Millersburg.

Tuesday, May 10 Millersburg, at home. Friday, May 13 at Porter-Tower. Tuesday, May 17 at Williamstown. Tuesday, May 24 Halifax, TV Accident Sunday Terry Troutman of Dalmatia R. was injured when his car left the highway and snapped off a utility pole, early Sunday morning.

The accident occurred on Route 25 2 miles east of Millersburg, and was investigated by State Police of the Lykens sub-station. The broken pole fell on Trout-man's car. He was treated for his injuries at a Harrisburg hospital and discharged. ROTARY CLUB ELECTS OFFICERS Members of the Elizabethville Rotary Club elected the following officers at a recent meeting: President, Alvin Mauser; vice president, William P. Lehman; secretary, Robert Straub; treasurer, Dean Hartman.

Members of the Board of Directors are: Robert L. Rubendall, John C. Deibler, Frederick Es-terline and Gerald L. Dietrich. ASK FIREMEN TO REGISTER FOR COURSE Members of the Reliance Hose Company No.

1, Elizabethville, who desire to attend instruction classes in fire fighting and rescue methods, are asked to register with Charles Wertz or George Welker before Monday April 11. The Aisses will be held by the Tri-Valley Firemen's Association from 1:00 to 5:00 p. May 1 and May 15 in the Elizabethville Borough Park. WOODMEN CAMPS TO MEET AT BERRYSBURG A joint meeting of Woodmen of the World Camps will -be held in the auditorium of the Berrysburg school building, Saturday, April 9 at 7:30 p. m.

Wilt of Millersburg, participated with the 82nd Airborne Division in exer- in Puerto Rico that ended March 31. During the 18-diiy exercise, participating troops of the Stra tegic Army Corps were trans ported from their home stations throughout the United States, to i staging area, and then returned. Wilt is the son of Mr. and Mrs. iichard A.

Wilt of Millersburg, ind is a graduate of the Millers burg-Upper Paxton Union High School. He entered the Army in July 1958 and completed basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. START WORK ON CHURCH HOME Construction of the Upper Dauphin Lutheran Church Home at Union and Church Streets, in Millersburg was started recently. It has been designed to house 22 aged persons. The brick and stone home, entirely on one floor except for a small ground-level basement in the rear, in addition to the guest rooms, will have a large living room with stone fireplace and large window area, dining room, kitchen, office, matron's suite, a sitting room at the front of each wing, a beauty parlor, and doctor's consultation room and nurses' station.

One wall of the living room -will have sliding doors which will open upon a altar about which will center periodic worship services. The large entrance-way may be approached by three steps or a concealed ramp, through a spacious courtyard in which the guests may gather in fair weather. The basement area will contain a social room, laundry, boiler room, storage rooms and workers' quarters. Rev. Harold L.

Dietz is Executive Secretary of The Lutheran Service Society of Greater Harrisburg, agency of Lutheran churches of this area, which will operate the Home. Two other Homes, each having about thirty residents, are presently operated by the Society. Mr. Robert Trullinger of Pen-brook is president of the Service Society and other officers are John D. Ulsh, Millersburg; Rev.

Paul R. Clouser, Middletown, and Rev. John J. Weikel of Dalmatia. It is anticipated that the Home will be ready for occupancy about November 1.

A community service of wor- ship will be held in Trinity Ev- angelical United Brethren Church, Elizabethville, on Goud Friday, April 15. Participating in the service will be Rev. Thomas A. Berg, Rev. E.

W. Boyer, Mr. Donald J. Stump, Rev. Floyd Tice and Rev.

Richard C. Yoder. i "Darkness To Dawn" will be the theme for the service which will begin at 12 o'clock noon, and close at 3:00 p. m. i The choir and soloists of Trin ity Church will take part in th2 seivice.

EASTER RECESS FOR SCHOOLS Easter recess for pupils of the Upper Dauphin Joint School District will begin with the close of 1 a Thursday afternoon, April 14. Sessions will resume Monday morning, April 18. 102,584 VOTERS REGISTERED IN COUNTY According to the County Commissioners, a total of 102,584 Dauphin County residents are eligible to cast votes at the primary election on April 26. The voting lists include 70,581 registered as Republicans, and 32,003 as Democrats. These totals include 28,442 Republicans and 12,315 Democrats in the city of Harrisburg; and 42,139 Republicans and 19,688 Democrats in the County districts outside the city.

FIREMEN TO MEET AT PROGRESS The regular Booster Meeting of the Dauphin County Volunteer Firemen's Association will be held April 8 at 8:00 p. in the fire house at Progress. COUNTY SCHOOL DIRECTORS HOLD ANNUAL MEETING The sixty-ninth annual meeting of the Dauphin County School Directors Association was held at the 1 1 n-Highspire Joint School last Thursday. Darwin Williard of Lykens Township, Charles Sweigart and Samuel Grubb were elected members of the County School Board. Speakers at the meeting included C.

F. Fritz, area coordinator of industrial education for the State Department of Public Instruction; Dr. L. J. Fink, Super intendent of Dauphin County Schools; Walter B.

Lang, president of the Steelton-Highspire Joint School Board; Rev. Karl Flocken, and Dr. Elias Phillips, president of the Dauphin County Board of School Directors. HARRY G. RIEGEL Harry G.

Riegel, age 78 years, died at his home in Gratz on Tues day. He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Lykens Township. Survivors are two sons, Lee A. Lykens, R.

D. and Paul A. Riegel, Harrisburg; three daughters, Mrs. William Frantz, Elizabethtown Mrs. Richard Snyder, Gratz, and Mrs.

Ira K. Gottschall, Halifax R. D. 2 and six grandchildr en. Also surviving are a brother, Isaac M.

Riegel, Gratz Star Route; and two sisters, Mrs. Lura Shadle, Spring Glen, and Mrs. Maude Straub of Lykens. Services will be held from Simeon's United Church of Christ, Gratz, at 2:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Rev.

Joseph A. Heiney, pastor of the Upper Dauphin Charge, United Church of Christ will officiate, and interment will be in the Gratz Cemetery. GORDON E. LOWER Gordon E. Lower, age 62 years, of Williamstown, died suddenly Saturday, at the home of his daughter, Mrs.

Charles H. Hoffner, Mayfield Street, Elizabethville. Mr. Lower was a son of the late Charles and Alice (Swoyer) Lower, and was a native of Williamstown. He was a member of Seibert's Evangelical United Brethren Church, Williamstown, and was a teacher in the Sunday School.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Mae Finley Lower, one son, Russell, of Williamstown; a daughter, Mrs. Hoffner, Elizabethville; two grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Florence Hopple of Williamstown. Services were held from the Lyons Funeral Home, Williamstown, Wednesday morning.

Rev. Russell Walters, pastor of Seibert's Evangelical United Brethren Church officiated and interment was made in Fairview Cemetery at Williamstown. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Wise were weekend, guests of her brother; Mr.

and Mrs. Frederick Boyer, Plainfield, New Jersey. Mrs. Ronald Lesher returned from Germany by plane on Saturday. Her husband will return to the States later this month to receive his discharge from the Army.

They had resided in Darmstadt, Germany where he has been stationed with the Army. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Marlym Lesher of town. Norman Barry of town, who had been a surgical patient in the Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg, returned home last week.

(Raymond Snyder of Carsonville was admitted on Saturday to the Harrisburg Hospital, where he is a medical patient. Mr. and Mrs. Carson Under-koffler were the weekend guests of her brother, Mr. and; Mrs.

returned home on Monday after a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Hoke, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mr. and Mrs.

Dean Watkeys and children Deanna and Duane of State College, and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Watkeys of Baltimore, Maryland, were the weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Watkeys, West Main Street.

Miss Effie Erdman is a patient in the Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg, where she recently underwent surgery. APPROVE FIRE COMPANY PROPERTY SALE Members of the Reliance Hose Company at their meeting Monday evening, approved sale of their building and lot on South Market Street to the First Na-, tional Bank of town. The Bank had submitted the high bid of $2551 for the property, which adjoins the Bank property. The company had asked for bids for the property which is to. be vacated when the new fire company building now nearing completion on a site on the west side of South Market Street, is ready for occupancy.

CALLED FOR INDUCTION Elwood C. Paul, Halifax, and four other registrants of Selective Service Board 54, Harrisburg, were called for induction into the armed forces on Wednesday. ENTERS RETIREMENT Eugene F. Seal of Harrisburg, employed in the bureau of engineering construction, Department of Property and Supplies, entered retirement last week after twenty-one years of State service. He is a native of Millersburg.

Mr. Seal studied engineering at Penn State College and entered employ of the State in 1939. Two years later, he transferred to the position from which he retired last week. SERVICES IN LUTHERAN CHURCH Special services will begin in Salem Lutheran Church, town, with the Palm Sunday service when thirteen young people, members of the catechetical class, will be confirmed. The service on Holy Thursday will also be a Communion service, and Good Friday will be observed at the service in the evening at 7:30 o'clock. Easter services will begin with the early service at 6:30 a.

m. Immediately after this service the Holy Communion will again be administered, at which time the con-firmands will receive their first Holy Communion. The pastor will conduct a baptismal service at 3 :00 o'clock that afternoon. At Gratz, Rev. Artz will conduct a Good Friday service at 10:00 o'clock.

The Holy Communion will be administered on Easter Sunday at 10:00 o'clock. The regular meeting of the Parent Teacher Association of the Upper Dauphin Joint Schools will be held in the Upper Dauphin High School, Elizabethville, Monday, April 11 at 8:00 p. m. The Junior Band will render a brief concei prior to the meeting. Dr.

John H. Bonier, dean of the Harrisburg Area Center for Higher Education will be the guest speaker. The subject of his address is "Higher Education." TOOK PART IN ARMY MANEUVERS Army Sgt. Lester N. Hepner of Millersburg recently participated with other personnel from the 8th Division's 505th Infantry in an airborne exercise conducted in France.

Sergeant Hepner is assigned as a squad leader in the Infantry's Company A in Wiesbaden. He entered the Army in 1946 and arrived overseas in January 1959. He is the son of Jacob R. Hepner of Millersburg. CONFIRMATION SERVICE IN GRATZ CHURCH Members of the confirmation class of the Lykens Valley Charge, United Church of Christ, will be received into membership of Simeon's and St.

(Hoffman's) congregations, at a service in Simeon's Church, Gratz, Sunday at 10:00 a. m. Members of the class are: Betty Welker, Clara J. Williard, Tim Williard, Terry Daniel, Or-ville Daniel, Raymond Ramer, Bonita Ramer, Simeon's Church; and Lynn Harris of St. Peter's Church.

C. PAUL SCHREFFLER C. Paul Schreffler, age 69 years, died at his home in Hamburg, Pa. on Saturday. Mr.

Schreffler was a son of the late Charles and Emma (Cooper) Schreffler and was born January 7, 1891 in Washington Township, Dauphin County. He was a former resident of Elizabethville and had resided in Hamburg the past twenty years. He was a member of the United Church of Christ, and the Hamburg Game Association. Survivors are his wife, the former Abbie Gottschall; two sons, i 1 rt and Lynn and one daughter, Mrs. Stanley M.

Bailey, all of Hamburg; eight grandchildren, and three sisters, Mrs. Harry Bahney, Elizabethville; Mrs. E. E. Snyder, Millersburg, and Miss Eva Schreffler, Elizabethtown.

Services will be held from the Buffington Funeral Home, Elizabethville, at 1:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon. Rev. Roy M. Neideigh, pastor of the First United Church of Hamburg, will officiate, and interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Elizabethville. GEORGE H.

KISSINGER George H. Kissinger, age 80 years, of Gratz, died in a Harrisburg hospital on Monday. Mr. Kissinger was a son of the late Amos and Rebecca (Hoffman) Kissinger and was born at Gratz, August 8, 1879. He was a member of Simeon's United Church of Christ, Gratz.

His wife, the former Carrie Buffington, preceded him in death. He is survived by the following children: Harry, of Orwin; Mrs. Clarence KopjUenhaver, Gratz; Mrs. Marlin Fetterolf and Mrs. Robert Shearer of Harrisburg; Mrs.

Jacob Deichert, Pine Grove; Mrs. Calvin Bender of Lebanon; Joseph, of Orwin, and Lester, with the Army in Germany; twenty-seven grandchildren and nine teen great-grandchildren. Services will be held from the Buffington Funeral Home, Valley View, at 1 :30 o'clock Thursday afternoon. Rev. Donald Stump will officiate and interment will be in the Gratz Cemetery.

ALLEN G. SWAB Allen G. Swab, age 35 years, of Lykens, died in a Harrisburg hospital Saturday. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Lykens. Survivors are his wife, Mrs.

Emily Schoffstall Swab; one son, Allen, at home; his mother, Mrs. Mary H. Swab of Halifax; and a brother, Austin, of Lykens R. D. Services were held in the Baptist Church at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon.

The pastor, Rev. W. E. Wade officiated, and was assisted by Rev. W.

L. Petcovic and Rev. A. L. Stinner, former pastors of the church.

Interment was made in the P. O. S. of A. Cemetery at Lykens.

guest speaker for the first Tri- Va'ley Youth For Christ Rally to 1 he held in the Elizabethville Borough School auditorium, West Street, Saturday, April 9' at 8:00 p. m. Also taking part in the program will be Miss Betty Burkholder, talented marimba player, who has -appeared at Youth For Christ con-ventions in Ocean City, New Jersey, the past several years. The program will also include other instrumental and vocal selections. This is the first Youth For Christ Rally to be organized in the area comprising Upper Dauphin and Lower Northumberland cuunuti.

I The Tri-Valley Youth For Christ organization is sponsored by a 1 committee of ten. men, of which Mr. Leon Kocher, Millersburg, is serving as chairman. Co-directors for the rally are Ellis Rowe, Dal-matia, and Adam Fisher of Wil-liamstown. The rallies are to be held each Saturday night, and information as to future services will be announced from week to week.

Eby, 60, of Hatboro, died in a nursing home at Ambler, Monday evening. He had been in ill health for some time. Mr. Eby was a son of the late Charles F. and Catherine (Yohe) Eby, and was born January 9, 1900 in Elizabethville, where he had resided most of his life.

He had been a resident of Hatboro the past eight years. Mr. Eby was a member of the Royal Arcanum Lodge, Elizabethville; Ashlar Lodge 570, F. and A. Lykens; Harrisburg Consistory of Scottish Rite Masons, and Zembo Shrine Temple, Harrisburg.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Charlotte Houtz Eby, one daughter, Mrs. Robert Suppa of East Northport, Long Island, New York; one sister, Mrs. Hilda Johnson, and a brother, Arlo Eby, both of Roslyn, and one grandson. Services will 'be hefd from the Burlington Funeral Home, Elizabethville, at 1:00 o'clock Friday afternoon.

Rev. W. Z. Artz, pastor of Salem Lutheran Church, Elizabethville, will officiate, and interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Funeral Home Thursday, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.

m. Mawnic services will be conducted by the Ashlar Lodge, Thursday at 8:15 p. at the funeral home. HARRY ALLEN HERMAN Harry Allen Herman, age 62 years, of Tower City, veteran of World War died in a Harrisburg hospital on Tuesday. Mr.

Herman was a son of the late M. Edward and Mary (Klinger) Herman, and was a native of Washington Township, Dauphin County. His wife, the former Sadie Rowe, preceded him in death. He was a member of the Knights "of Pythias Lodge, Tower City; ine Grove Barracks 725, World War Veterans, and Reinerton Lo-eal, United Mine Workers of America. Survivors are four sons and two daughters, William, of Tower' City; Clarence, of Muir; Paul, Williamstown; David of Little Falls New Jersey; Mrs.

Ethel Hummel and Mrs. Helen Un-derkoffler of Tower City and ten grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Floyd of Harrisburg; and five sisters, Mrs. Harvey Heller of Blodgett Mills, New York; Mrs. Joseph Latvis of Lawrence, Massachusetts; Mrs.

Delton Nei-man, Lykens; Mrs. Curtis Lentz, and Mrs. John Long, both of Elizabethville. Services will be held from the Dreisigacker Funeral Home, Tower City, at 2:00 o'clock Friday afternoon. Rev.

F. L. Hemmig, pastor of the Lutheran Church, Tremont, will officiate, and interment Till he in Maple Grove Cemetery, Elizabethville. Berrysburg and Millersburg, Wednesday evening, April 13, at 7:30 o'clock. Everyone is welcome.

COMPETE IN ARCHERY SHOOT Several members of the Elizabethville Archery Club participated in the men's field archery competition at the Pennsylvania Sportsmenl's Harrisburg, last Friday. Local archers who won first place in various classes of that day's event, were: Jay Gunderman, Ex. Class 120 points; Paul Bowman, with 113 points in the bowman class; and Kenneth Rose with 79 points in the archer class. COMPLETE GAME STOCKING PROGRAM The Erdman Sportsmen's Association, recently completed its game stocking program for the year. During the year, the association purchased and released for re-stocking purposes: 300 cottontail rabbits; 180 ringneck pheasants, six coveys of quail and 12 turkeys.

Iu addition the association purchased and distributed two truckloads of grain; and assisted in the re-stocking of 100 ringneck pheasants furnished by the State Game Commission. ANNOUNCE WINNERS OF ICIWANIS CLUB PROGRAM The Dalmatia Kiwanis Club's annual Amateur Night Program was presented irv the Mahanoy Joint High. School auditorium, a a Thursday evening, March 31, for an audience of approximately 575 persons. Participants were divided into two groups. Junior (eighth grade aire and under) and Senior, (above eighth grade.) winners were announced as follows: Junior Division A.

Individual First prize, Debbie Eagle, Williamstown, baton twirling. Second prize, Alvin Spotts, Dalmatia R. piano solo, "Russian B. Groups First prize, Harris sisters, Dorn-sife, tap dancing; second prize, Bonnie and Dixie Phillips, Pillow, piano duet, "Qui Vive." Senior Division A. Individual First prize, Lois A.

Leggett, Valley View, piano solo, "By The Sea." Second prize, Sandra Blair, Herndon R. vocal solo, "Desert Song." B. Groups First prize, Troutman Sisters, Herndon R. vocal ensemble, "Mr. Sandman." Second prize, The Dreamers (Dawn Lenker, Donna Latsha, Linda Reese, Herndon), "Dream." Proceeds from the program will be used for underprivileged children's projects.

WILL SPEAK IN HOFFMAN'S CHURCH Mrs. Carl S. Sipple, a missionary to Japan, will be the speaker at a service in St. Peter's (Hoffman's) United Church of Christ, Lykens Township, Thursday, April 14 at 7:30 p. m.

Mrs. Sipple is a graduate of Ur-sinus College, Collegeville, and took graduate study at Columbia University, New York. She has been a member of the faculty of Miyagi College in Sendai, Japan, and is now head of the Kindergarten Teachers' Training Department at Miyagi College. Members of the Women's Guild of the Hoffman's and Berrysburg churches will take part in the service. The public is cordially invited to attend.

The Couriers Gospel Quartet will present an all-hymn sign, in Reigle's Evangelical United Brethren Church, on Route 25 between ANNOUNCE ENGAGEMENT Mr. and Mrs James C. Neubold Millersburg, have announced tha engagement of their dauaghter, Linda, to Mr. Leo J. Hirsch, son of Mr.

and Mrs. Arthur I. Byerly of Loyalton. Miss is a graduate of the Millersburg-Upper Paxton High School and is employed by the Johnson-Baillie Shoe Company, Millersburg. Mr.

Hirsch is a graduate of the Lykens High School and is also employed by the Johnson-Baillie Shoe Company. MATTER HOFFMAN Miss Sonya Hoffman of Williamstown and James Matter of Wiconisco, were married recently in the Methodist Church, at Williamstown. The double ring ceremony was performed by Rev. E. Leroy Eberhart.

The couple was attended by Miss Barbara Rudisill of Wiconisco and Mr. Graham Brown of Williamstown; Ushers were William Warlow and Gary Scheibelhut. Miss Marian Culton, organist, played the wedding music. Mr. and Mrs.

Matter will reside in Elizabethville. TO GIVE CANTATA IN AREA CHURCHES The sacred cantata entitled, "Seven Last Words of Christ" will be presented in the Evangelical United Church, Loyalton, April 10 at 3:00 p. and in the Evangelical United Brethren Church, Wiconisco, April 15 at 7:30 p. m. The cantata will be presented by the choirs of the two churches, under the direction of Mrs.

Dean Myers of Wiconisco. The public is cordially invited to attend. CHURCH GROUP MET AT GRATZ HOME Members of Circle United Lutheran Church Women of St. John's Church, Berrysburg, met at the home of Mr. and Mrs.

Bruce Bucher at Gratz, Sunday evening. Devotions opening ithe meeting were in charge of Mrs. Edward Gessner and Mrs. Harold Fetter-hoff. The program, based on the thme: "Growth In.

Spiritual was in charge of Mrs. Donald Neagley. Also participating in the program were Mrs. Palmer Schultz, Mrs. Earl Kocher, Mrs.

Mark Sultzbaugh and Mrs. Thomas Berg. The next meeting of the group will be held May 1 at the home of Mrs. Franklin Harris. It was announced that a mother-daughter banquet will be held in May.

WILL SERVE HAM AND EGG SUPPER The Men of Zion Lutheran and Reformed Church, Rife, will pre pare and serve an old-fashioned ham and egg supper in the Fellowship Hall at that place, Satur day, April 23, from 4:00 to 8:00 p. m. Children to and including 8 years of age may participate and are to assemble at the West Broad Street School building not later than 2:00 o'clock that afternoon.

From the school house they will move to the Borough Park for the hunt. In case of unfavorable weather, the hunt will be held in the West Broad Street school building.
