That was my family's favorite show for years and we'd love to see something like it again. P. D., Troy, N.Y. A: The sets and setting will be different but changing Phil Silvers is like changing the stripes on a tiger. He will play the maintenance foreman in a factory, a role which gives him the freedom to rove about the place getting involved in all manner of Bilko-type situations from catering a coffee break to raffling off his salary check. Q: In tv terminology, what does "lip sink" mean? A. L., Flint, Mich. A: It's spelled "lip-sync" and is a term used in films and live show business as well. It means a performer is synchronizing his voice with something pre-recorded. For instance, Mitch Miller's records his numbers in a special studio on tape. These tapes are replayed during the television show with the chorus synchronizing their lips with the recording to give the illusion that they are actually singing. Q: Is there any way of stopping commercials from blasting us out of our living rooms every-time they come on? F. T., Paducah A: There's one way. Write a simple letter to .the manufacturer of the product involved telling him you are grateful for his sponsorship but cannot con- PHIL SILVERS He'll still get into those Bilko-type situations. tinue buying his product while this annoying disregard for audience comforts continues to exist. Q: My father says that Walter Brennan won three Academy Awards. What did he get them for A. D. Hayward, Calif. A: "Come and Get It" (1936), "Kentucky" (1938), and "The Westerner" (1940). Q: I know that Tuesday Weld is only 19 years old and I wonder how she got to be so professional in so short a time. How old was she when she started her professional career? K. R., Elmira. A: Tuesday started as a professional N model at the tender age of three. She was all of twelve when she landed her first film lead in a classic titled "Rock, Rock, Rock."
