ELiIZABETHVILLE, NOVEMBER 3, I960 ClBatjetpt Ccfto Graduates Hold WEDDINGS Local and Personal News County Granges To Meet at Killinger Community Grange of Fisher-ville will be host for the meeting of the Dauphin County Pomona Grange, November 12, in the i CIVIC CLUB HOLDS MEETING The regular meeting of the Elizabethville Civic Club was held Tuesday evening. Pictures of churches of this area were shown by Mrs. Paul Kessler of town, and were an interesting feature of the program.

It was stated that the 1961 birthday calendars have been received by the club and will be delivered this month. To Observe Church Anniversary Sunday Services in observance of the 71st anniversary ofTrinity Evangelical United Brethren Church, town, Rev. Richard Yoder, pastor, -will be held Sunday, November 6. Ira Matter of Halifax will teach the lesson for the Sunday School at 9:30 a. m.

The morning worship service will be held at 10:40 o'clock when I Dr. Gilbert L. McKlveen will be the guest speaker. Dr. McKlveen is head of the Department of Education at Lebanon Valley College, Annville.

A former pastor of Trinity Church, Rev. Homer Falstick, will occupy the pulpit for the service 7:30 p. m. Rev. Falstick is pastor of the Linglestown Evangelical United Brethien Church.

The senior choir, under the direction of Mr. Homer Romberger, will sing at both the morning and evening service. Plan Area 'Youth For Christ' Services The first Tri-Valley Youth For Christ service for the fall and winter season, will be held in the Lykens High School auditorium Saturday, evening, November 5 at 8:00 o'clock. A film titled "The Great Discovery" will be shown during the program. There is-no admission charge.

The Tri-Valley -Youth For Christ, it was explained, is affiliated with the world-wide organization known as Youth For Christ International. The local Youth For Christ group is supervised by a committee including Leon Kochei and Richard Witmer of Millersburg; Fred Phillips, Dalmatia; Ted Thompson of Wiconisco; Dr. J. H. Altland, Elizabethville; W.

Roy Kerstetter, Halifax; "and Lee Marshall and Roy Schaffstall, Lykens. Ellis Roiwe, Dalmatia, has been appointed Director of the Tri-Valley Youth For Christ for the coming year. Beginning Saturday night, Youth For Christ rallies will be held every Saturday in Lykens. NEWS OF THE SCHOOLS Mahanoy Joint High team added their sixth win in the season's play jrith a 50-0 victory over Upper Dauphin High'a Huskies, at this place Saturday afternoon. Mahanoy's Larry Erdman was high scorer for the game, with four touchdowns to his credit.

The reunion was the first for the class, and marked the fifth anniversary of graduation. Larry Cooper served as chairman for a brief business session when the following members were chosen as a committee to make arrangements for the next reunion: Wildon Renn, chairman; Mrs.

John Witmer, Mrs. Donald Matter, Miss Anne Buxton and Ben Cunningham. Mrs. Donald Herrold and Mrs. William Helwig served as co-chairmen of the 1060 reunion committee.

SUBMIT VOTING MACHINE QUESTION TO ELECTORS The question of the use of voting machines, instead of paper ballots, will be submitted to electors of Millersburg and Jackson Township at the election next Tuesday. Polls that day will be open from 7:00 a. m. to 8:00 p. eastern standard time.

SCHOOL SUBSIDY PAYMENTS The State Department of Public Instruction this week mailed semi-annual school subsidy payments to 397 first, second and third class school districts. Payments totaled $82,120,232. Payments to fourth class districts were made last week. ENROLL FOR COURSES AT PENN STATE Nearly 125 students are en' rolled at the Pennsylvania State University for the Fall term of the winter courses in the Agriculture program. PLAN TO ORGANIZE 4-H CLUBS Plans have, been completed for organization of a 4-H Electric Club in the Harrisburg area and another club in the Millersburg area.

Each club, it was stated, will have a separate section for first year members and for those who have already finished with the first year work. The purpose of this project, according to Robert J. Rugaber, Associate Dauphin County Agent, is to teach simple elactrical prin ciples, electrical safety, and to give each member an opportunity to assemble an electrical project of his or her choice. Anyone in Dauphin County between the ages of 10 and 21 years of age is welcome to join. The first meeting for Upper Dauphin County will be held on Thursday, November 10 at 7:30 p.

Grab of Harrisburg in Simeon's Evangelical and Reformed Church at Gratz. The pastor, iRev. James G. Reed, officiated. The bride was attended by her sister, Mrs.

Dean Deibert, as matron of honoi, and H. Donald Grab served as best man for his brother. Ushers were Stanley E. Engle, brother of the bride, and James Daley of Harrisburg. "Mrs.

Orville Daniel, organist, played the wedding music and Ann L. Hepler was vocalist. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl E.

Engle of Gratz and is a graduate of the Upper Dauphin Joint High School, Elizabethville. The bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Grab of Harrisburg. He is a graduate of the John Harris High School and is employed by Miller's Furniture Store, Harrisburg.

The couple will reside in Harrisburg. WERTZ F1NEL A2c Richard W. Wertz of the U. S. Air Force and Miss Nancy L.

Finel of Spokane, Washington, were married in the Lidgewood Presbyterian Church, Spokane, recently. The ceremony was performed by the pastor, Rev. R. E. Blackstone.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Finel of Spokane, and Airman Wertz is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl U.

Wertz of Rife. The couple will reside in Spokane. AT PARSONAGE Paul G. Byle of Herndon R. D.

and Shirley of Gratz were married at the parsonage of Salem Lutheran Church, town, Saturday evening. The pastor, Rev. W. Z. Artz, performed the double ring ceremony.

The couple was attended by Mrs. Leah Long, as matron of honor, and Ray Byle, brother of the bridegroom as best man. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Klinger uf Gratz.

The bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Byle of Herndon R. D. He is employed by the Meckley Quarries, Mandate.

A reception was held at the home of the bride's parents, following the ceremony. TELL ENGAGEMENT Mr. and Mrs. Fred Latshaw of Herndon have announced the engagement of their daughter, Grace E. Latsha, to Waldo F.

Floyd, son of Mrs. Reba Floyd of Cranbury, New Jersey, and the late Wood-row Floyd. Miss Latshaw is a graduate of the Mahanoy Joint High School, Mr. Floyd is a graduate of the Hightstown, N. J.

High School. OBSERVE ANNIVERSARY Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Dunkle, recently observed their fiftieth wedding anniversary at their home in Halifax. Mr.

Dunkle is retired, and is a former foreman of the Willits Shoe Company, Halifax. Mrs. Dunkle is the former Irene Miller of Halifax. Mr. and Mrs.

Dunkle (have two children, three grandchildren and a great-grandchild. BIBLE CLASSES TO MEET AT PENBROOK The Dauphin Federa tion of Men's Bible Classes will hold its annual banquet and election of officers in the Church of God. 27th and Canby Streets, Penbrook, Tuesday, November 15 at 6:30 p. m. ENTERTAINED AT PARTY Members of the Officers' Club, Glen Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Lykens, held a costumed Hallowe'en party at the Buxton cottage in Powls Valley, last Wednesday evening. Following a brief, business session, the members were entertained at cards, and refreshments were served by Blanche Buxton, Ethel Daniel and Helen Daniel. Present were: Mary Griffith Barbara Harman, Sara Herbe Goldie Machamer, Vaughn Miller, Mary Rowe, Esther Shomper, Florence Stahle, Ava Walker, Cora Welker, Etta Coles, Helen Daniel, Anne Rees, Rhoda Stud-holm, Ethel Daniel and Blanche Buxton; Sp.4 Edwin Collier has returned to the after a tour of duty with the Army in Germany, and is now at Fort Dix, New Jersey. He had been stationed with the Army at Heidelberg, Germany, the past two years.

Richter and children Charles, Edward and Mary Ann of Newville, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Uhler, Sunday. Members of the student government organization of the Lancaster General Hospital Nursing School recently' named three students to attend the State convention of the Student Nurse Association in Philadelphia this week. Sessions began Tuesday and will close Friday.

Miss Linda Hoffner, a second year student in the Nursing School is one of the three delegates chosen-to attend the meeting. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hoffner, Moore Street, town, and is a graduate of the Upper Dauphin Joint High School. iMr.

Wallace, of the Visiting Nurse Association. MUSIC CLUB MEETS Members of the Harmony Club of Dauphin County held their first meeting of the season, at the home of Mrs. Edward T. Romberger, Elizabethville. A report of the meeting of the State Federation of Music Clubs was given by Mrs.

Arthur Horn. The program included a piano Mi-s. Lee Saltzer and Mrs. Edward Romberger; organ solo, Mrs. Saltzer and vocal solo by Mrs.

George Gillis. Officers of the Club are: President, Mrs. Edward T. Romberger; vice presidents, Mrs. Paul Hoffman and Arthur Fehr; corresponding secretary, Mrs.

B. W. Williams; recording secretary, Mrs. Lee Saltzer; treasurer, Horace Schwartz. RECEIVE NEW GRANGE MEMBERS AT MEETING (A meeting of the Lykens Township Grange No.

2066 will be held November 9 at 8:00 p. in the Lykens Township building, when Deputy W. W. Wert will administer the obligation for new members. Lecturer Williard has planned an evening of enteretainment, including "Trick or along with other games.

Sidman of Williamstown is attending the Aviation Machinist's Mate School at the Naval Air Technical Training Center, Memphis, Tennessee. During the course, Students are instructed in the repair and maintenance of both reciprocating and jet engines, and trained in the basic electric and fuel systems of aircraft. Florence Moran who has appeared as a speaker during Homemakers' Week programs at t'he Pennsylvania State University, will be the principal speaker for the evening meeting. RAILROAD CONSOLIDATES AGENCIES Consolidation of the Pennsylvania Railroad Agencies ar Millersburg and Elizabethville. became effective November 1, according to an announcement by C.

G. Magruder, Regional Manager of the Pennsylvania Railroad at Buffalo, New York. The now hours of business at Millersburg now are from 8:00 a. to 12:00 noon, and at Elizabethville from 1:30 to 4:30 p. standard time, Monday through Friday.

NON-PROFIT CHARTER APPROVED BY COURT A non-profit charter for Zion Cemetery Association of Rife, Millersiburg R. has been approved by Judge Walter R. Sohn in Dauphin County Common Pleas Court. WILLIAM C. BRETZ Funeral services for William C.

Bretz, 20, of Halifax R. D. 2, who was killed in a truck-automobile collision on the River Road, near Harrisburg, October 26, were held from the Sterner Funeral Home, Millersburg, at 2:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Rev. James W.

Emerick, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Millersburg, and Rev. Floyd Tice, pastor of the Enders-Powls Valley Evangelical United Brethren Charge officiated, and interment was made in Oak Hill Cemetery, Millersburg. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Joan Spotts a son, Scott at home; his parents, Mr.

and Mrs. 'Charles Bretz of Harrisburg R. D. and three sisters, Mrs. William Peck of Greenbelt, Maryland; Mrs.

Sherwood Matter, Halifax R. D. 2, and Miss Pearl Bretz of Harrisburg R. D. 3.

LAWRENCE R. HAWK Lawrence R. Hawk, died at his home in" Lykens, Thursday. Mr. Hawk was a son of Charles and Annie (Biggs) Hawk, and was a native of Lykens.

He was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Nelson Hawk; two daughters, Mrs. Ralph Smeltz and Mrs. Robert Hoffman, both of Elizabethville'; a brother, Harry N.

Hawk of Lykens; and five sisters, Mrs. Ruth Bobroski, Mrs. Mary Pinkerton, Arlene and Ann Hawk of Lykens. and Mrs. Anna Kissinger of Williamstown.

Services were held from the Schafflstall Funeral iHome, Lykens, Monday morning. Rev. S. H. Stoner officiated, and interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Elizabethville.

EMMON J. TROUTMAN Emimon J. Troutman of Dal-matia, died October 26 at the age of 66 years. Mr. Troutman had engaged in the butchering business in Dal- matia a number pf yeuis, and was later employed by the State Highway Department, Mr.

Troutman was a son of the late William and Susan (Lahr) Troutman, and was a native of Jordan Township, Northumberland County. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. I Alice Blosser Troutman; a daugh ter, Mrs. William Shiffer, Millersburg; and two grandchildren1. Also surviving are two sisters and three brothers, Mrs.

Russell Renn, Millersburg, and Mrs. Allen Schlegel of Valley View; Grant Troutman, Pillow; Roscoe Troutman of Herndon R. and William F. Troutman of Port Trev-orton. Services were held from the Hoover Funeral Home, Dalmatia, at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon.

Rev. John J. Weikel, pastor of the Stone Valley Lutheran Parish officiated and interment was made in the Dalmatia Cemetery. KNEE INJURED IN ACCIDENT Paul Mattern, Herndon R. D.

sustained an injury of his left knee' while engaged in work on his farm, Tuesday. iMr. Mattern was injured when a sliver of steel 'broke from a hatchet which he was using, and lodged in the knee. Thomas Fenstemvacher to John H. Cook, dwelling in Wayne Township. DAMON R. SHOOP Damon R. Shoop, age 72 years, died at his home in Berrysburg on Tuesday.

'Mr. Shoop was a son of Isaiah and Jane (Hoover) Shoop and was born at Enders, September 11, 1888. He was a member of the Evangelical Congregational Church, Berrysburg, He also served as a trustee, and class leader and Sunday School teacher. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Grace Henninger Shoop; one son, Marlin E.

Shoop, Elizabethville five daughters, Mrs. Clair Straub of Springfield, Virginia; Mrs. Glenn Troutman, Pillow; Mrs. Milan Kratzer of Gordonville R. D.

'Mrs. Guy Schreffler, of Grampian R. D. and Mrs. Vernon Phillips of Camp Hill; fifteen grandchildren and two great-' grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother, Emory Shoop of Millersburg; and two sisters, Mrs. Beulah Stine of Berrysburg, and Mrs. John Kop-penhaver, Millersburg R. D. Services will be held, from the Evangelical Congregational Church, Berrysburg, at 2:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon.

day from noon until time of the service. WILLARD C. STONEROAD Willard C. Stoneroad, age 25 years, of Millersburg R. died in a Harrisburg hospital October 26.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Sarah Stoneroad, two sons and one daughter, Willard Randy, and Margaret, all at home; a step-daughter, Miss Patricia Lebo of one step-son, George E. 'Miller of Hartsville, South Carolina; his CONDUCTED FUND SOLICITATION Young people of the United Church of Christ, Lutheran and Evangelical United Brethren Churches of town, wish to express their appreciation for the generous response of residents of this community, in the "Trick or Treat" solicitation of funds. Forty-four young people took part in the solicitation, and contributions totaled $130.50. money has been sent to the United Council of Churches of Christ in the United States, and will be used for the Church World Service of the Council.

ENTERTAINED MEMBERS OF FARM GROUP Members of Group No. 14 of Berrysburg, were guests at the October meeting of the Farm Women's Group No. 8, in the Halifax Area Joint School. A covered dish supper was served. Pictures of Christmas holiday decorations of homes and trees were shown by Miss Beaver and Mrs.

Stewart of the Pennsylvania Power and Light Company. A brief business session war conducted, and a program of games was in charge of the entertainment committee. A number of members of Group 8 have been assisting in the United Fund Appeal in Halifax Township. NAME CHAIRMEN FOR SEAL SALE Henry B. Gilbert, General Chairman of the 1960 Christmas Seal Sale of the Tuberculosis and Health Society of Dauphin and Perry Counties, has announced the appointment of three area chairmen for the Seal campaign opening November 14.

They are: Perry County, M. S. Gobrecht of Landisburg; Upper Dauphin County, Miss Helen E. Reed, iR. Elizabethville; Lower Dauphin County, Mrs.

C. Robert Larsen of Hummelstown. The Area Chairmen will select local community chairmen to assist them in the conduct of the campaign in their areas. Miss iReed is school nurse-for the Upper Dauphin Joint Schools and is secretary of the Parent-Teacher Association of the Upper Dauphin Schools. UNINJURED IN ACCIDENT Harry Weaver, Harrisburg, was uninjured when the truck he was driving left the highway and crashed into a guard rail on route 14 about four miles south of Halifax, Saturday night.

Damage to the truck was estimated at $200. The accident was investigated by State Police of the Lyker.s substation. EMPLOYMENT OFFICE. TO BE CLOSED NOV. 8 AND 11 Mrs.

Patricia A. Kelley, Manager of the Williamstown office, Bureau of Employment Security, has announced that the office will be closed on Election day, Tuesday November 8, and Veterans' Day, Friday, November 11. Unemployment Compensation claimants who are regularly scheduled to report on those days, will be re-scheduled as follows: November 8, Election Day holiday Individuals whose claims week ends on or before Sunday, November 6, will be scheduled to report Monday, November 7. Individuals whose week ends on November 7 will report Wednesday, November 9. November 11, Veterans' Day holiday Individuals whose claims week ends on or before Wednesday, November 9, will be scheduled to report Thursday, November 10.

TO RECEIVE CONSERVATION AWARDS The annual state meeting of Soil Conservation District Directors will be held in Washington, today and Friday, when plaques will be received by Raymond D. D. The awards are given by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. to winners in its annual soil conservation contest, and will be presented following the annual banquet, Friday. FARM GROUP TO MEET A meeting of Group 11, Farm Women's Society will be held in the Pleasant Hill Grange Hall at Killinger, November 9 at 7:30 ip. m.

A film on the subject of Christmas holiday lighting, will be shown by a representative of the Pennsylvania Power and Light Company. DEDICATE NEW SCHOOL BUILDING The new Hegins-flubley Township Elementary School building of the Tri-Valley Joint School District, was dedicated at a program Sunday afternoon, when C. D. Grover of the State Department of Public Instruction was the speaker. The new structure made possible discontiuing use of the Gap and Main Street buildings, Valley View, and the Sacramento and Hegins Elementary buildings.

died on Monday at the age of 48 years. Mr. Boyer, a son of Chauncey and Mabel (Broscious) Boyer, was born in Jordan Township, Northumberland County, May 1, 1912, and had been a lifelong resident of the Hebe community. He was a member of David's United Church of Christ, at Hebe. Survivors are his wife, Mrs.

Arlene Kolva Boyer, one daughter, Shirley, of Danville; and two sons Kenneth and Dennis, at home; his parents, of Millersburg; and a sister, Mrs. Pauline Swine-hart of Millersburg. Services will be held from David's Lutheran and United Church of Christ, at, 2:00 o'clock Thursday afternoon. Rev. Jacob Singer, of Herndon, pastor of the United Church of Christ, and Rev.

Paul W. Billow, of Urban, pastor of the Lutheran Church will officiate. Interment will be in the Hebe cemetery. ABRAHAM L. GROSS Abraham L.

Gross, age 88 years, retired business man of Harrisburg, died in Baltimore i October 26. He was a native ofiRiga, Latvia, and came to the United States at the age of 16 years. Mr. Gross conducted a store in Gratz a number of years. Later he moved toHarrisburg where he began operation of the Harrisburg Abattoir, with his brother, Myer, who preceded him -in death.

Survivors are his wife, Rose S. Gross, three sons, three daughters, four grandchildren and six Services were held at Ohev Sholom Temple, Harrisburg; at 1:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Rabbi Philip Bookstaber officiated and interment was in Mt Moriah Cemetery, UPPER DAUPHIN HIGH MUSICAL ORGANIZATIONS Upper Dauphin's High School Band under the direction of Mr. Herman Helwig ia really marching along this year. Wearing their snappy black and white uniforms, the band has performed eye-catching routines for U.

D. football games. The U. D. Baud participated in the Gratz Fair Band Day.

The lively "Marching Cha ha" was performed in excellent taste, and the marching routine was one of the top "hits" of the day. An added attraction to the band's excellent music are the majorettes and band front performing their flashy routines directed by head majorette, Carol Phillips. The Rhythmaires, XT. dance band, has also been im the spotlight. Consisting of approximately twenty members, including vocalist Linda Huntzinger, the Rhythmaires are directed by Mr.

Helwig. Keeping with the school motif, the group is dressed in trim black and white. The Rhythmaires have played for many exchange programs, dances and banquets. Included in their recent appearances have been the Gratz Fair, the Upper Dauphin Homecoming Dance, and College Night. They play various kinds of music including some saucy Latin-American numbers and rock and Toll.

Two versatile members of the dance band are John Schminky, vocals and trumpet, and Ty Troutman, vocals and trombone. Also featured are Jim Shade on drums, and Alan Hain, stellar first trumpet. In the future, the Rhythmaires will play at the school exchange program with Millersburg High School and various high school events, The name, of Darlene Snyder was inadvertently omitted from the list-of honor roll students of the Upper Dauphin High School, issued for publication last week. Miss Snyder is a member of the Junior Class.
