Elmira lost its third straight and dropped to the bottom of the McNamara Division with a record of 9-16, eight games behind the Oneonta Yankees. Jamestown remains at the top of the Stedler Divison with the league's best record at 17-7.

Alleyne struck out six and walked only one in evening his record at 1-1. Only two Pioneers reached second base off Alleyne. In the fourth, John Valentin got Elmira first hit, a two-out single, and advanced to second on a passed ball. Mickey Rivers' connected for a one-out double in the sixth inning, but was left stranded. The only other hit for the Pioneers was David Mon-egro's one-out single in the ninth inning.

The Expos struck for all the runs they would need in the fifth inning. Jeff Atha hit a bases-loaded single to score Rod Boddie and Martin Robitaiile and when centerfielder Rivers bobbled the ball, Ted Pichowski came into score. Jamestown scored again in the seventh to ch'ase Elmira starter Al Sanders. Joe Siddall tripled and scored on a sacrafice fly by Robitaiile. Bryn Kosco cracked his fourth home run of the season in the eighth inning for to account for the Expos' final two runs.

Sanders went seven innings in sun-ending five hits and four runs, one unearned. Sanders is now 2-3 on the season. Carlos Rivera came in the eighth inning and gave up Kosco's homer. Doty declared on June 17 that the two sides were at an impasse in trying to resolve the matter, setting up a decision on the injunction request on the same day four NFL teams open training camps. Carol Rieger, a Minneapolis attorney representing the union, asked the judge to issue the injunction as soon as possible. She said offering free agency after training camps open would be worthless to the play-ers for the 1988 season. Jones said the management council is prepared to appeal if Doty grants the injunction.

But the judge also has the option to side with the league or rule against the league and stay the order until an appeal can be heard. The union filed an antitrust lawsuit against man-, agement Oct. 15, when players returned to work without a contract following a 24-day strike. The antitrust suit was filed in Minneapolis by Llnd-1 quist Vennum, which represented the union in 1975 and 1976 in the John Mackey case an antitrust challenge of the free-agent system in place at that time. Free agency was a key issue in last year's strike.

-Only two players have changed teams since the current rules on free agency were adopted 12 years ago.
