Rescheduled For April 9 "The Great American Novel," new concept of presenting literature on television, has been rescheduled by CBS News for broadcast on Tuesday, April 9 (10-11 p.m., EST) in color on the CBS Television Network.

Arthur Barron, producer of the CBS News Special, describes the broadcast as "a demonstration, in a new way, that great literature lives because it is as relevant today as when it was written." With CBS News Correspondent Eric Sevareid as reporter and Pat Hingle and Richard Boone as narrators, "The Great American Novel" focuses on "Babbitt," Sinclair Lewis' 1922 portrayal of middle age in middle- class American, and "The Grapes of Wrath," John Steinbeck's memorable 1939 portrait of rural poverty. To evoke the contemporary relevance of "Babbitt," Barron took his CBS News cameras to Duluth, the model for Lewis' Zenith City; for "The Grapes of Wrath," he traced the typical flight of an Appalachia farm family to industrial Chicago.
