THREE "TRAIIPS" CONCERNED. An Old Haa Who Is Incarcerated 'on tbe Charge of Intoxication Tells of the Plot -Is It True or Ghost Story. What might have been a jail delivery was disclosed this morning. Tho transaction was given away by an honest old farmer, who was arrested Saturday and placed in jail on the charge of intoxication. The man's name is Matthew Hogcncamp.

He came to this city from "Waverly with tho intention of visiting a relative, who resides in the country. not far from JMtmra. ihe old man statement was given to the police this morning. He stated that he knew of soma thing that was going on in the jail but he did not want to tell of it, but upon being pressed he finally con sented to p-ive tin what information he had. IT.

The description the farmer gives of the men concerned in the plot tallies with that of the tramps who held up the freight train near Eldridge lake, and who are believed to be the same men wh.0 were in a shooting affray at Bingbam- ton last summer. Tbe authorities are said to suspect a certain party of having, given the tramps a key. WHY IS THIS THUSLY.

People Anxious to Know Why Abner Wright Is Turned Down. A question which is just now agitating the public mind in Elmira is, why has Fas-sett turned down Abner C. who on Saturday tendered to the Republican County mittee his resignation as chair- man of that aueust body. it has been jrenerally believed for some time that Mr. Wright was not congenial to Mr.

Fassett; in fact, during the campaign last fall he was nothing more than the chairman of the Republican county com mittee in name the work and ''bossing" was done by Commodore W. R. Compton. AVhatever the differences ara, that exist between Messrs Fassett and Wright, they have evidently reached a result Just what those differences are, is the subject of much speculation and comment at the present time. C. Wood, Erie's Travelling Passenger Agent for Penn sylvania, who is just now acting as night Erie Ticket Agent at Corning, has received a handsome pass from the Rio Grande Southern 1 a'lroad. It is three inches long and one and one-half inches in width, and is of solid silver, manufactured by native workmen. On the face of the piece is the name of Wood" engraved, while the inside is all filigree work of beautiful design. It was enclosed in a handsome mo rocco case.

Henry Wilson's Case Disposed Henry Wilson, colored, was sentenced by Recorder O'Conuell this afternoon to six months in the Monroe county penitentiary and to pay a fine of $50. Death of Mrs. Jennie Eager. Mrs. Jennie Hajrer.

wife of Hiram Hager of 220 Thurston street, died Monday aged S3 years. The remains were taken to Lambs Creek-this moraine for interment. The Council Meeting. The council meeting last night was largely devoted to passing sidewalk resolutions. The move is in the right direction.

April 19. Christopher Karnans while coupling cars at the D. L. W. depot last evening had his left hand badly crushed.

Dr. Pawling amputated four of his fingers. He was removed to his home at Corning. A Railroad Han's Father Dead. The father of James Winn of this city, who is engaged as trackmaster of the D.

L. died at Nicholson, Sunday. The funeral was held at Scranton to-day and was largely attended by railroad men of this city and other places. Special Train to Corning, X. Y-, and Return, To accommodate the Masonic body who go to Corning to-night, the Erie will run a special train from Elmira to Corning and return this eveninsr.

Special train will leave Miller street at 7:30 p. stopping at Southport and Elmira stations, and on the return the special train will run over to Miller street. April 19. Mrs. John ConnelL aged 50 years, died this forenoon. Her husband was an Erie yard engineer here for many years previous to his death, Mrs. Connell's maiden name was Hawley tnd her father at one time was a famous contractor for the Erie railroad.
