attempted to murder his wife Mrs Dunlap his mother ln law Mrs Gardner his sister In law and committed suicide Monroe and his wife have lived so unhappllyr that she left the family home a fev weeks ago and went to her mothers She commenced an action for divorce and during the pendency of the case which was to have been tried to morrow was awarded the custody of the child Within the last two days Monroe had made to several persons the significant remark that the case would never come to trial but this was thought to mean that he expected to become reconciled to his wife This morning Monroe met his wife and mothcr lr law down town and followed them home He entered the house and deliberately pointed his revolver at Mrs Dunlap whom he fancied was responsible for his marital iinhappiness Mrs Monroe observed her husbands act and before he could fire seized his arm disturbing Monroes aim so that ne Inflicted nothing worse than a painful wound In Mr Dunlaps jaw Still further enraged at his wifes interference Monroe turned the revolver upon Mrs Monroe and shot her through the back inflicting perhaps fatal Injuries Mrs Gardner Mrs Mcnroes sister who lives in the next house heard the shooting and rushed into her mothers house to learn the cause When she appeared at the door Monroe tired at her point blank hitting her In the body and it Is believed fatally injuring her Monroe then took the baby in his arms and started to leave the house He stopped in the doorway placed the muzzle of the revolver against the childs neck and pulled the trigger Monroe concluded the tragedy by Boy BAN BERNARDINO September 16 Frank Sinsabaugh a well known dairyman charged with battery upon Willie Pltter a boy of It years who had worked for him admitted In court that he had struck the boy three times with a whip and being ounud guilty by jury Judge Glfford this morning tod the defendant that though the hoys back bore evidence of more than three blows he would charge the prisoner 120 for each blow and tf preferable the prisoner could serve out his sentence at the rate of one day for every 2 The case was an especially aggravated one the boy having been worked by Sinsabaugh until exhausted and being caught asleep when ordered to milk seventeen cows Sinsabaugh whipped him with th butt end of a whip until his back was covered with welts The boy escaped and fori over two weeks property in which he was interested When asked by attorneys for the plaintiffs what he was going to give in return for the money he replied I was going to give evidence Bruce stated that after canvassing both sides he returned to Albert Fink attorney for the Wild Goose Company who agreed to try to get hlmia position with the company Later Bruce was sent with one of the attorneys for the for the large number of desertions from the regular Army in the Department of the Colorado The tots desertions during the year closing August ISth were 338 The report says The desertions can be in large part attributed to the malign Influence of saloons and brothels situated near the reservations seducing enlisted men from the paths of decency This Is only another of the many arguments In favor
