oclock eight vessels were reported as off the Islands three of them being the British ships Euphrosyne and Androhina from New castle Australia and the Ky nance from Swansea the remaining five being unknown The thick fog prevailing off the Heads would have prevented them from being reported for perhaps the next two dayst Last Tuesday the steamer Alameda was reported by the observer on the Farallones at 10 15 oclock and lt was more than two hours later when the liner passed in through the thick weather prevailing in the Heads THE KOSMOS LINERS The Kosmos steamer Isis arriving Wednesday evening from Hamburg and many southern ports and since held In quarantine will be released early this morning with her passengers and will dock at Broadway wharf No 1 The Luxor of the same line sailed and Nome Comparatively few passengers were on board The list included two brides elect Miss Elizabeth Chapman who Is to become the wife of Yan Allen and Miss Anita Cox who is to marry District Attorney Landers The weddings will both take place at Nome about October 14th and the couples will remain In Alaska through the winter SliVIillE GALES ON THE VOYAGE The British ship Llndneld Captain Reed came into port yesterday 159 days from Antwerp with a cargo of general merchandise She left Antwerp on April 18th and was in fairly good weather until 40 degrees south when severe gales were encountered lasting until Cape Horn was abreatt on July Sth Wintry weather was found there snow and ice prevailing and die winds were so strong that several sails were blown from the ship After rounding the Horn another series of gales were expenencec lasting to oa degrees south DISASTERS OS ALASKAN COAST The schooner Abbie Deerlng bound from Nome for Seattle was wrecked on September 4th on Bab island All hands were saved but the vessel will be a total loss The ship St Francis previously reported us allre In her cargo of coal at Dutch Harbor was damaged to the extent of 1000 The cable steamer Burnslde bound from Seattle for Nome struck an iceberg south of Douglas island Repairs can be made by the engineers at Juneau ELECTRICITY ON LIGHTSHIP Powerful electric lights will be used on the lightship stationed off the bar after October 26th OH lamps are now In use The electric lights will be steady for nve seconds followed by an interval of ten seconds and will be fifty seven feet above the water It will be possible In clear weather to tee the lights a distance of thirteen miles from a height of fifteen feet above the surface of the sea RATES ADVANCED QJf LQCH LONG The only
