quarrel over love aftnlrs at mld nlffM last nlffht Bernm Ward a wealthy grocer of Los Anyelea and Miss Mabel Ell I a formerly of Los Angeles were both slightly wounded last night in a mom ut 1116 Stockton strot when a revolver oer which they were fighting was discharged three times Ward who had been engaged to the girl previous to her departure for San Franclaco a year ago had visited her sex 660 left their places at th mill of the Burnam Standeford Company proprietors of the Oakland Planing Mill at First and Washington streets at I oclock this morning Th men accuse the mill owner of handling Sunset Lumber Company ma terlal of all descriptions In direct vlo latlon of the orders under which the union men were working They fur ther accuse the mlllowners with em ploying seven non union carpenters In violation of the agreement which th company has signed with the union A Sefton secretary of th Central Labor Council stated this afternoon that thre had been much dlssatlsfac tlon among the union men for several weeks and that the strike was not un expected Two hundred and fifty hands of the Taylor Lumber Company In Alameda quit work this morning within live minutes after reporting for duty and the big plant at the north end of Grand street was Immediately closed down Several grievances ave said by the union men to have caused the strike The walkout was approved by the Oakland Building Trades Council previous announcements the men that they would strike being disapproved by the Council Business Agent Striker said that the employment of a non union saw flier by the
