of noimn in the saloon of Edward Comyns at 25 Turk street af terhavlng written a letter in wnicn she gave as the reason for her act tne alleged fact that Coram ha ruined and deserted her was yesterday afternoon takenfrom the Recetrinr Hospital to her home In Oakland by her A ir Mythat no on of the girl family knew anything about her alleged Intimacy with Comyns and asserted that Comrns had always acted the Rf rkSSivaHtSati Rt their home ta Oakland Adahad always becnof a morbid temperament and had often when disappointed in anything she wanted expressed the desire to end her It was i claimed by jlda when she was taken to the Receiving Hospital Sunday nlaht that Sha nad toM hr mnth about Comyns treatment of her and Her mower oaa fjireatenea to snoot Dim The truth of this statement is placed in Question by the claim of both the mother aiut the sister of Ada that they did not know of the intimacy between Comyns and the girt and hadV always regarded Comyns as an honorable man There is as delightful and clever a comedy performahceat the Columbia Theater this week as anybody can ask for It Is The Great Unknown an adaptation from the German by Daly and the Frawley company fplays It They played It last season with suc cess but ft is In that case to some Important details a better performance The FraTwleyi company keep growing very naturally In finish aid style It was given a high and refined stamp when It wasorganliedv That refined stamp hat been maintained audi with the acting together the people have be come much more valuable The play hardly needs criticism now Suffice It to say it is as witty and bright a pro duction aa any of that series In which Ada Kenan and John Drew were the leading figures It Is absolutely as well played as lt could be by any regular New Tork company to day and the fact that it Is done by our own stock com pany acting In San Francisco a large part of the year at popular prices does not in the least impair the value of the presentation For three months we have had at the Columbia Theater such productions as prove that novelty alone makes a great deal of the difference between high and popular priced shows To put it frankly the Lyceum company ot new Tone when it was out here last had neither the balance nor the variety of talent Mr Frawieynas around htm There is not an actor or actress among the principals who is not amply equipped to take an equivalent place In New York to day We really have in the Col umbia a comedy theater quite superior to any stock theater in the country and in the Frawley companyran organization without an equal outside of New Tork and only in special cases In New York The season is drawing to a close and we shall miss the always bright and tssteful productions the agreeable people and the refined performances for that kind of entertainment must give place to very different attractions There are no other Frawley companies traveling aroundL The Great Unknown has some very remarkable comedy hrorfc by Blanche Bates and Glidys Wallls could not be bettered In Pansy Corson Clarke Is at his best in the bid man and there Is not a man on the stage who can sit about and hare a play played around mm nice worthing in the OTtonnell Don Cariyle is better than he was last week A very agreeable addition to the company Is Lavena Atwood Alto gether such a play and such a performance are not so often got together that it should be taken as a matter of course It Is sufficient comment en The Heart of Maryland which began its second week to a house as enthusiastic as ever last night at the Baldwin Theater to say that the advance sale for this week Is twice as large as it was at this time of the first Theater parties of from flveto thirty people are bovine seats and the demand evengpes into tne inira weex aireaay Gustav Walter has made the beaf stroke of his Orpheum management by uuugijugr oTtr tne Hungarian Doy band Nothing be has had has so caught the audiences not only for the interest taken In such young instrumentalists but for the aulte remarkable nerform ance they give Hungarians are musical they must be when a band almost as gooa as gousa and far ahead of most others In the precision snap and effect with which ther Dlav the num bers is found to be made up entirety ot youins quite young bright looking thoroughly intelligent and under fine control The audience last night grew wildly enthusiastic when feeiins that something familiar was necessary for an introauction to America they played El Capltan March A Hot Time in tne oia Town TThe star iSpangled Banner and Yankee Doodle which they bad learned it was said since they arrived here Indeed El Capltan March they only learned yesterday Their uniforms are picturesque and they seem to be as self reliant and as easy in the using of their Instruments as grown up players It Is quite an attractive number In the Orpheum hill which has besides Mains and Maxett in a clever original acrobatic sketch Smith and Campbell dialogue comedians Fox of Conrov and Fox and Katie Allen In a sketch for novel lies ail successful Some of the favorites of last week hold the boards itm The house was packed last night It Anasaaees
