i Between 2 and 3 o'clock Thursday morning Policeman Silfies detected two suspicious characters going about the streets of the borough. He kept them under dye and went through yards and alleys in an effort to get close enough to stop them. Evidently they saw him coming and led him a merry chase for an hour. Finally the prowlers crossed the Lehigh river bridge and escaped -into Northampton. Mr.

Silfies says they were both, tall in stature although he could not get close enough to learn their identity or recognize them. High School Festival. A festival was held 'in Town Hall last evening by -the high school scholars. The proceeds derived therefrom will be devoted to the piano fund of the' school. Quite a jiumber attended.

Rounds Up Bad Men. Frank Miller and; Joseph Dcmitavitz were arrested on Thursday for disorderly conduct and drunkenness and were fined $5.00 and costs by Squire Sieger. A hobo giving his name as John Smith, of Lansford, was arrested, on Thursday for begging. When arrested he claimed to be deaf and wo aid' not talk, communicating by signs and through writing.
