The Nortonville News TO VISIT NORTONVILLE DEC. 24 Santa will make his annual appearance at the Lions Club sponsored Christmas Party for children of the Nortonville area. The party will take place at the High School at 1:15 p.m., Dec. 24. Santa and his Lions friends will distribute candy to the children and they will be some movie cartoons.

WILLIAM J. YOCAM William J. Yocam, 66, Topeka, brother of Mrs. C. E.

Akers, 603 North Fifth street, died at a hospital in Topeka. Funeral services were held Monday at Penwell-Gabel chapel in Topeka and burial was in the Topeka cemetery. Mr. Yocam was born March 5, 1899, at Bean Lake, and attended Atchison High school and Atchison Business college. He retired March: 19, 1965, as an employee of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co.

in Topeka. Mr. Yocam was a member of the Methodist church. Mr. Yocam lived many years with his mother and stepfather, the late Mr.

and Mrs. W. L. Clark. The Earl Fuhrman family live on the place now.

THRU THE YEARS WITH THE NEWS 60 Years Ago Dec. 29, 1905 John Mair and family were entertained Christmas Day at Mrs. Mair's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Margaret Curry won the first prize in the doll contest at Kauf- man and Haines', Harriett Whitaker, second and Marie Donaldson, third.

40 Years Ago Dec. 25, 1925 Ray Haskell opened up a new store on Railroad street. G. W. Cline of Rock 'Creek died Dec.

20. He was 83 years of age. One of his daughters is Mrs. L. A.

Reeves of our city. Mr. and Mrs. Irwin O. Figgs are proud parents of a son, Irwin Lawrence, born Dec.

17. 20 Years Ago Dec. 21, 1945 Mr. and Mrs. Bert Ragland will celebrate their 44th wedding anniversary Christmas Day.

Dec. 28, 1945 The marriage of Miss Jessie Fine of Atchison and Mr. Lindell Clinkinbeard took place at 12 o'clock Christmas Day at the Methodist parsonage, the Rev. Vincent Hall officiating. 10 Years Ago Dec.

23, 1955 Mrs. Maude Burdick, who is a patient at Cushing Memorial hospital, Leavenworth, is improving and they have completed the work of grafting. The grand opening of the Pharmacy was a big success. Dec. 30, 1955 John Varner, 77, Nortonville died Dec.

15 at the Atchison hospital. Earl Van Horn and sister Mrs. Hazel Kaufman, left Wednesday morning for Lakin, Kansas: spend the holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Ben Henry.

Mrs. Henry, formerly Edna Van Horn is a sister of Earl and Hazel. ROY B. SEARS Services were at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec.

19, at Stanton Mortuary here for Roy B. Sears, 77, Cummings, who died Thursday in a hospital here. Burial was in Mount Zion Cemetery at Gower, Mo. He was born Oct. 18, 1888 in Buchanan County, and had lived in Atchison County many years.

He was a member of the Christian Church. He was a retired farmer. Survivors include a son, Harold L. Sears, 329 E. 36th, Topeka; two daughters, Mrs.

Milton L. Schrader, Cummings, and Mrs. Arthur Bode, Covina, a brother, Charles Sears, Seal Beach, a sister, Mrs. Mabel Callas, Wichita; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The Flory pre-Christmas dinner was held Sunday at the home of Mr.

and Mrs. James Flory. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hartman, Topeka; Mr.

and Mrs. Clarence Flory and family, Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Flory and family, Mr. and Mrs.

Paul Long and family and Mr. Jim Peck, Valley Falls; and Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Smith, Arrington. Mr.

and Mrs. Clinton Streator and daughter Carol of Liberal are arriving here today for a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Flory and other relatives. Mr.

Streator is attending a Hardware Show at Topeka and his wife and Carol will visit here. They will all stay until after Christmas. The Christian Endeavourees of the S. D. B.

Church- twentyone in number went caroling Saturday night, to some of the elderly and shut-ins of the town. Then following this, they had a party at the church basement, -where they participated in many games and had Seasonal refreshments. Judy August had charge of the games. Mr. and Mrs.

Kent Wheeler are sponsors of this group. Guests from away were Russell Johnson and Karen Osborn of Kansas City, and Kathy and John McAlexander of Tonganoxie. Mark Wheeler of Leavenworth, Kansas. who has a two week Christmas vacation, is visiting his grandmother for a few days. There will be a Vesper Service Friday evening at 7:30 at the S.

D. B. Church in charge of Miss Zella Babcock. Sabbath morning at 10:30 the choir will have charge of the service, presentino Christmas music. Everyone is cordially invited to both of these services.

Earl E. Van Horn has received word that James F. Nichols, Oklahoma City, passed away on Dec. 15, in a hospital there from a severe heart attack. His memorial service was held on Dec.

19. Miss Patty Erpelding is leaving Saturday night for Newport, R. where she will visit her fiancee, Mike Higley for a week ten days. During the first I week of her absence, Mrs. Norma Ireland will operate the Curl and Swirl Beauty Shop.

It will be closed from Jan. 1 to Jan. 4. Dec. 24, 1965 Winchester, Ks.

Mrs. W. WILK IN, Nortonville Representative ELIZABETH NIEMAN BIRTHS Mr. and Mrs. Don Lindsay of Grand Rapids, are the parents of a baby girl.

They also have two sons. Mr. and Mrs. George Lindsay of Emporia are the paternal grandparents. Richard Lindsay is the great-grandfather.

SCHOOL NEWS NORTONVILLE GRADE SCHOOL 1965-1166 BASKETBALL SCHEDULE ELIZABETH NIEMAN BIRTHS SCHOOL NEWS Mrs. Elizabeth Nieman, 97, died Dec. 16 at the home of her son, James Niemann, Nortonville, where she had lived the last 12 years. Funeral services were held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St.

Matthew's Lutheran Church at Nortonville with the Rev. R. A. Brammer officiating. Burial was in the Nortonville cemetery.

Junior Niemann, Kenneth Niemann, Harry Niemann, Daryl Niemann, William Kanning, and Steve Westermann were pallbearers. Mrs. Niemann, the former Elizabeth Kloepper, was born Feb. 15, 1868, at Minden, Westphalen, Germany, and came to this country when she was 16. She and Charles Niemann were married Nov.

10, 1887, at Potter by the Rev. Draegemuller, Mr. Niemann died in September of 1937. Mrs. Niemann, a kind and considerate person, was a charter member of St.

Matthew's Lutheran church at Nortonville. She was an excellent neighbor and devoted to her family. Besides their own children, Mr. and Mrs. Niemann reared four foster children.

During her declining years, Mrs. Niemann received the best of care from her son and ter-in-law with whom she lived, and other members of her family. Surviving are four sons, James and Ed Niemann, Nortonville, Rev. Carl Niemann, Independence, Kansas, and Elvin Niemann, Topeka; one daughter, Mrs. Lena Nettler, Greeley, a sister, Mrs.

Lena Robertson, Stockton, 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and three great-greatgrandchildren. Four daughters, Mrs. Freda Moege, Mrs. Bertha Davis, Mrs. Hulda Moxley, and Matilda, who died in infancy, died previously.

The foster children are Esther Millward, Kansas City, Johnny Bloomstrom, Nortonville, and Fred Kruse and Joe O'Brien, deceased. The family requests. memorials for the Lutheran Hour. The Lydia Circle of the are selling Methodist church plates at $2 each. Call 886-2632 or 886-3720.

The pre-Christmas dinner for the Weishaar brothers and sisters was held Sunday at the Ben Weishaar home with Mr. and Mrs. Kenny Weishaar and Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Weishaar in charge in the kitchen.

Those present for the dinner were Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Weishaar, Mr. and Mrs. P.

and Mrs. Alfred Henry announce the birth of a son at the Atchison hospital Friday, Dec. 17. Their other children are Wayne, Arlene, Alicia and Jon. Mr.

and Mrs. James Henry and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Noll are the grandparents. Sgt.

and Mrs. Jack E. Nicholson are the parents of an eight pound. daughter Monday, Dec. 20 at Cushing hospital, Leavenworth.

Mrs. Nicholson is the former Marilyn Ellerman and is staying with her parents, Mr. and. Mrs. Orville Ellerman while.

Sgt. Nicholson is with the Armed Forces at Fairbanks, Alaska. HELEN HARGROVE Services were Friday at St. Ann's Catholic Church here for Mrs. Helen Marie Hargrove, 30, Effingham, who died Dec.

14 in a Kansas City hospital. She had polyarteritis, a rare ailment characterized by inflammation of several arteries at the same time. She was born Sept. 7, 1935 at Arrington. She was married to Max Hargrove August 29, 1953.

Besides her husband, survivors include two daughters, Rene Ann Hargrove and Jeane Marie Hargrove, both of the home; her mother, Mrs. Margaret Gerety; two sisters, Mrs. Mrs. Donna Smith, Berryton, and Mrs. Bonnie Schneider, Topeka; and two brothers, Ralph Geretv and Bill Gerety, both of Nortonville.

Burial was in Effingham cemetery. Stutz-Shifflett Funeral Home at Effingham was in charge of arrangements. NEW PASTOR FOR CHURCH AT CUMMINGS The Rev. William H. Odor, recently accepted the assignment as pastor of the Cummings Christian Church.

He has served churches in Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Indiana and Illinois and served as Army chaplain during World War II. Rev. Odor holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Washington University, St. Louis, and the degree of master of theology in Bible: from Manhattan Bible col. lege.

Manhattan. His wife, Ivah, assists him in the music department and youth departments of the church. They make their home at Shawnee Mission, commuting to Cum mings. Thev are parenta of William. Jr.

All of us colored stained glass panels to put in the windows. Mrs. Millikan brought a tree for us to school and we are bringing some decorations for it.

We are going to have a film this Friday after we get out of school at 1:30. Dicky Rathert, reporter. THIRD FOURTH GRADES We are looking forward with great joy for Christmas and a vacation. In Fourth Grade science we are studying about weather and climate. We are enjoying the nice weather outside.

Both Third and Fourth grades are making booklets containing material about the Geminis in Orbit. Some time ago all of us purchased flutophones. We are having a "Tooting" good time in mesic. Several have been ill with colds and flu. We will: report to you again' next year.

Christmas and a Happy New Year. NOTICE The American Legion and Auxiliary of Fost 242 will have a pot luck. supper on December 31 at 7 p.m. A belated Christmas gift exchange not to exceed $1 will be after the supper. Also, a report from the membership committee.

Commander Moeck requests that all membership dues be paid and turned in by Dec. 31. to St. Joseph Friday to spend the week end with his nephew, Mr. and Mrs.
