marine engineer Is sought for on a charge of bigamy He was married on September 7th last to Mlsa Tessle 8kelly at Santa Rosa having at the time a wife living at 2232 Santa Clara avenue Alameda Ames crime has been known heretofore to a few only Including bis lfe ho was loth to credit It but yesterday there appeared on the scene Samuel Crooks of Santa Rosa who gives the details of the marriage and states his intention to find Ames and deliver him to Justice Ames left the State soon after his marriage to Miss Skelly and his present abode is unknown Crooks says that he can locate him within twenty four hours and that he has a personal grievance against him which urges him to see that his illegal act is property punished Aim lawful wife will also prosecute him for bigamy though she I is at a loss to account for his deed The Alameda wife Is a little woman past her outh but still loves ber erring husband deeply despite his treatment of her She said that it waa almost impossible for her to believe that he had married another that they had never had a quarrel and that she could ac count for Ames queer doings only by the supposition that he was actuated by some mad Impulse We were married In Placerville said Mrs Ames in 1891 by Rev Pierce an Episcopalian minister This marriage in Santa Rosa of Ames makes the third ceremony in hich he has been a principal He has a divorced wife now in San Francisco with whom Ilves her son by him George Ames 16 years I old I own this house and lot which were left to me by my father Perkins a mining engineer who died a vear ago My brother is Asa Perkins a pri I ate in Company Eighth California Regiment now at Vancouver barracks My husband and I lived together In peace and happiness on mj part I worshiped him and thought him perfection His deception of ma has seemed Incredible Mrs Ames said that her husband had worked as an engineer on one of the bay ferry boats for a long time and later was engineer at the power house on Webster street Alameda Last January he came to this city to work and she saw bim frequently They parted for the last time about the 1st of September and on the 2d of that month she had a letter from him stating that he was leaving for San Pedro to take a position From that time till now she had not heard from him Friends showed her some time ago a clipping from a Ban Francico paper mentioning the marriage at Santa Roa of George Ames to Tesie Skelly This waa the first suspicion she had of his committing bigamy Last Sunday a sister of Miss Skelly called on her and told her more of the wedding in Santa Rosa While Mrs Ames was talking a man who said that he was Samuei Crooks of Santa Rosa was ushered in He was In a highly excited state and demanded to know if it was Mrs Ames whom he addressed When answered in the affirmative he burn into a fit of passion and etormd about hile he announced his Intention to send Ames to the penitentiary I have a score to settle with him he said I have had money dealings with him Crooks said that he had been with Ames when the latter procured the maTiage license and had I Joked him then for giving his age at 1 when he wa four or five years older There was quite a crowd at the wedding The girls parents were opposed to the marriage at first as Ames was only a visitor to Santa Rosa Ames took his wife after the ceremony to San Francisco said Crooks From there they went to Spokane Falls where Miss Skelly had a cousin Butte Mont was their next stopping place and then Chicago I saw a letter from Ames written from there to a friend He left Chicago last Saturday If he went to Canada or came this way I don know but I have means of trailing him and within twenty four hours can have him under arrest Crooks said that Ames had been making 1250 a month as an engineer when he was telling his wife that he got but 1100 Crooks had agreed to get him a Government position at tSOO a month and now has the Job ready for him His wrath Is largely because of Ames not being on hand to take the offer What consideration if any Crooks waa to get was not divulged by him Mrs Ames his lawful wife has no children Ames who Is known by hun dreds of people In Alameda and bere is of fine appearance and of a quiet disposition Ha was a prominent member of a lodge of Masons and highly re spected A year ago last April he was elected a member of the Board of Library Trustees of Alameda and has two years yet to serve I Mrs Ames has retained Attorney Taylor but the latter will not bo Interviewed and refuses to say any thlngatallxif what will be done However MrsAmea declares that she will prosecute Amesv and also force him to support her At present she Is without means as Ames left her penniless The records at Santa Rosa show that George Spencer Ames aged and Tessle Skelly aged 30 were married on September 7th by the Ber William Martin pastor ot tbe First Presbyterian Church and that Mr and Mrs Samuel JL Crooks who lire a few miles from Santa Rosa were witnesses of the marriage tilneee Testimony Scrolls Inspector Nicholson in searching Fong Yl a Chinese who wished to visit his countrymen at the detention shed on the Mall Dock found a letter sewed up
