Dear Dad and All: Well, we are all up where the boys get rough once in awhile. It is not lively like some of the sectors are, though. William: and two other boys were wound-! ed the other night. Jerry threw grenades in where they were. Sox was wounded about the legs and head, but will get over it.

I am feeling fine and the rest of the fellows are, too, Pete is at school back behind somewhere. He didn't get to come with us. I received Nina's and Mamma's letter with the razor blades in it yesterday. I haven't a Keen Kutter razor now, but one of the other fellows has one, but no blades so he can use them. I also received a fine letter from Allen Harnish and a card from Carl Maret.

I am going to take them down to Lewie today. I am going to write a letter to Emmett as soon as I get time even if he doesn't write. Dad you have read about trench rats. Well, I am not in a trench, but a dugout and I never saw so many or so large rats in my life. I don't fuss with them as long as they leave me alone, although they get rather familiar at nights.

I expect my letters will be rather short for awhile, but will do the best I can. Oh, yes, you wanted to know what my duties were. I am a scout instead of an observer. My home part of the time is in no man's land. Lester.
