He was a past district governor of Lions Clubs International and past president of the Canadian Club of Hawaii. Cooper was born In Kingsville, Ontario, Canada.

He attended Queens University in Ontario and Northwestern University. He Is survived by son Bradley, daughters Sandra Phillips of Oregon and Deeju Macleod of Toronto, and brother Cameron Cooper of Las Vegas. No memorial services are planned. Casual attire. No flowers. Stanley Hideo Hamamoto Oct. 25, 2007 Stanley Hideo Hamamoto, 81, of Honolulu, a retired Eye Glass Shop optician, died in the Queen's Medical Center. He was born in Kaneohe.

He is survived died Oct. 23. One of Cooper's public relations creations put him In the Guinness Book of World Records. In 1973 he circled the globe on commercial airline flights In 36 hours, 19 minutes and 33 seconds, a new record that lasted at least a couple of years, said his son, Brad Cooper. "He was working for the greeting card Industry, and it was to mark the 100th anniversary of greeting cards.

He mailed cards from every stop. He was proud of the record because it was by commercial flights. Someone else set a record but did it by charter flights." Cooper visited 127 countries during his lifetime of travel and was a member of the Travelers Century Club. Before coming to Hawaii in 1979, he had worked for sev assisted-living facility in Canaan, following a recent heart attack, according to the museum. Lerner was a longtime art adviser to the museum's founder, Joseph Hirshhorn, a Latvian Immigrant who made his fortunes on Wall Street and as an owner of uranium mines.

Hirshhorn opened the doughnut-shaped museum on the National Mall in 1974 with more than 6,000 modern sculptures and paintings. As museum director, Lerner helped transform the private art collection into a national gallery of modern art that became among the most popular in the United States, The museum is part of the Smithsonian Institution. Lowell Dennis Smith, a onetime principal dancer with the Dance Theater of Harlem who brought forceful but fluid body movements to traditional ballets and modern productions, has died. He was 56. Smith died Oct.

22 at the University of Californla-Los Angeles Medical Center of lung cancer, said longtime friend RickFrey. During his 17 years with the Harlem group, Smith gained a reputation as a powerful performer with an Intense stage presence. Later he was an organizer of the Festival of the Pacific, bringing cultural exhibits and entertainment from other countries for the Honolulu event. "He was a natural when it came to organizing events and festivals said Paulie Jennings, executive of the World Invitational Hula Festival, "He supported Hawaiian cultural events, art and education." As a public relations man, "He had the most phenomenal imagination and came up with some amazing ideas," Jennings said. Bard Award, an architectural prize Intended to raise the standard of excellence for building design In New York City, died Oct. 24 In Manhattan.

He was 74. The cause was complications of lymphoma, said his wife, Deborah Brand. Brand founded the award In 1963. It was given annually by the City Club of New York to worthy architecture projects, including restorations and renovations. Bard, for whom the award was named, was a longtime proponent of improving architectural design In New York, The Bard Award, which recognized both municipal and commercial projects, set a high standard for architecture and urban design.

On more than one occasion the judges did not deem any building deserving of the award, but offered commendations to projects not quite, In their eyes, award-worthy. The City Club stopped giving the Bard Award in the 1990s. Among the many projects that received It were the reconstruction of the Central Park Zoo, the renovation of Brooklyn Borough Hall, the TKTS booth In Times Square and the Center for the Life Sciences at Columbia University. Abram "Al" Lerner, the first director of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden In Washington, has died. He was 94.

He took full advantage of his celebrity, writing cookbooks, opening restaurants, promoting cookware and food product lines, and creating a line of his own cookware and knives.
