trial of Mr Peete charged with the murdr of Jncob Denton was today continued from November to January lit on motion of ho public defender who has charge of her defense The order was made bv Judge Crall sltllng for Judge Willis in the criminal division of the Superior Court here The only tnlnr that Los Angelas has ever San Francisco In making motion pictures Is a heai start The reason for this Is th iU thajt dur ing th first days of motion pictures before th advent of upJto date lighting apparatus th prist requirement above all other things wss sunlight And Los Angeles was conceded to have jnor sunshine than San Fran clcso Th establishment of crude studios In the early days brought hosts of cosiuroers teen thouasnds of extras and mechanics who became dependent upon th making of motion pictures for their livelihood They settled in Los Angeles Then more studios were built and th film Industry which now ranks as th third largest In th United States became more firmly established Al present there are 0000 persons In Los Angeles who ara camera broke and worx continually extras MANY CAMERA BROKE So many companies have been shooting up north In and around San Francisco that ws already have a great number of people camera broke aa extras At this time there are many things In favor of a change In the broadening of the picture Industry The effort that has been made to bring th studios her previously and the new stimulation to the movement given by The Chronicle will positively bring results Th San Francisco Chronicle deserves unstinted praise for the admirable way it la getting behind the movement that will mean ao much to San Francisco Th fact that San Francisco weather la a trifle cooler than that of th south from a disadvantage haa become an advantage This Is further exemplified by th ulldlng ot a new 11000000 studfo on Long Island New Tork by th Famous Players Laaky Corporation Mw Tork xpriences greater extremes in westher than San Francisco CLASS ROOFED STUDIOS Most studios are equipped with glass roofs to protect the sets from rain and everyone knows that glass is a transmitter of heat When th hot southern sun pours on to th glass studio roofs th heat Is almost unbearable In the making of dramatlo scenes sometimes beads of perspiration from the brow of th heroine serve admirably for tears Furthermore th glaring sun fad the rich tapestries and upholstered furnishings used continually Many of the sets are completely shrouded In black for protection Th beat VBBBB BBBBKSTV Will Making the duty of today Wills made in the feebleness of old age Our service is always at your command decreases th efficiency of tns players In San Francisco th sun Is lost as bright tot its rays ar tempered by Invigorating sea breeses and It would be just as easy for th players to get down to work st oclock lo stead ot later as Is now many Ums th case Wyndham Standing Beb Daniel and Hobart Boaworth declared to mt that they preferred th San Fran Cisco atmosphere From very good authority I learn that every possible hindrance la being placed In th way of th southern atudloa la th securing of homes streets and publl buildings for use In camera work 1a many Instances It is claimed that aa exorbitant rental Is exacted It is further maintained that studl people are excessively taxed ovr and above other lines of business co oprhatioi absent Speaking to a manager of prodoc tlon be complained bitterly about th tact that Los Angeles owed mo much to th picture peopl for put ting that city on th map yet thlr co operative response is conspicuous by its absence In other word It la a case of biting th hand that feeds you San Francisco will learn a lesson from this complaint IC this city is fortunate enough to attract studios let us bend every effort to make their stay permanent Let them know they sra welcome Every cltl xen can do his bit toward this end The Chronicle has been running daily scenes of exterior locations which prove conclusively that San Francisco Is superior to any other community on the Coast for th establishment of studios Alt SCENES AIUU BETTER The natural beauty of th surrounding country the mountains the lakes th bay wharves a real metropolitan area perpetual snow on neighboring high peaks th for eign quarters of the city all contribute to the very settings required In the making of good motion plc tures Once again let me say that the enterprise of The Chronicle lit this endeavor should be recognised and encouraged In every way It will mean untold wealth and advertising to our beloved city Our reputation
