suit claiming that her uncle had borrowed 1000 which he faiieu to return lhe suits were instituted through an attornej as tbe ladies live in Italy The cases hare never been brought to tnai because it did not seem as though there was any chance to get a cent out ol tne estate Tbe executors testerday hied a pet tion in court asking permission to compromise the claims of the relatives It wis set forth that the Coupt mother is willing to take lo0 for ber claim and tbe niece will accept 100 The executors believe that this is a good compromise for it will end the litigation and give them a New Company Asks for a Portion or the Citys Patronage The Oakland Water Company is tbe name of a corporation which has recently expended much money to furnish the city with a new water service and its advent has been hailed with come approbation as it was thought that a competing company would somewhat reduce the water rates an anticipation which has already proved correct The new company now asks for some recognition from the local government and is likely to receive a share ot the municipal patronage Dingee who figures at the bead of the new company has expressed his willingness lo put in all hydrants free of expense to the city and will only charge tbe rental hxed by tbe Council This would mean a sreat sav fag as tbe Contra Costa Company which has hitherto bad the contract for supplying tbe city with water has taxed the municipality 75 each for putting in the hydrants Mr Dingee however is anxious not to enter into any rate cutting competition He simplv asks tbe Council to allow him a certain portion of the city to supply leaving the rest to the othercompanyand be promises a hrst class service at such rates as the Council may fix A question has been raised as to whether the Council can enter into a contract with the new company on tbe basis proposed but it is thought that there will be no obstacles and in all likelihood the deal will be consummated in the near future CHAItUES
