a pavilion it is a palace Almost alone among the buildings which represent foreign nations here this is a substantial structure built with real permanence behind its exterior appearance Furthermore this pavilion isawork of art an original conception not copied from any other existing building but designed as a new creation especially for the Panama Pacific Exposition by the celebrated Argentine architect Sauze Its graceful and harmonious architecture is of the French Renaissance a style admirably adapted to a festival building such as this is This is the idea expressed by the exterior decorations It is a pavilion for celebration for rejoicing Both exterior and interior of the pavilion exemplify the high quality of Argentine art The exterior is admirably proportioned so much so that it is hard to realize the actual size of the building The interior is finished in exquisite taste with an art delicately modulated to the extent of the walls and the ceilings The entrance opens into a noble hall imposing in its simplicity In the dere story the walls are decorated with splendid murals by the brush of the Argentine artist Colivadeno works which abundantly proved that Argentine art has the strength and beauty the freshness and vigor of the nation from which it springs In the center of the hall is an exquisite bit of sculpture in which a spring what the French call a source is represented as a delicate female form rippliftg from the rock On left and right the foyer opens into an elegant reception hall and a graceful refreshment room In the rear it opens into a theater in which moving pictures of Argentine scenes are shown daily The theater extends through both stories and thereby affords a balcony as well as the seating space on tho main floor In the wall of the corridor surrounding the theater on the first floor are excellent panoramas of scenes in the great southern republic Starting at the left and passing aroundtthe corridor there are a harvesting scene illustrating concretely the great grain fields of the republic a mountain lake as a bit of Argentino scenery a hardwood forest to show the countrys wealth oftim ber a petroleum field representing a hew but a strong industry the famed Iguazu Falls the hugest and most magnificent waterfall on the globe a dairy farm the great city of Buenos Aires the western worlds center of music and art a plantation scene and a vineyards All these picture to 4he eye the Argentine and its jesdarces and attracr tions though only a partial showingf 6f its infinite variety In the corridor upstairs are other panoramas a series of beautiful photographs and collection of graphic charts which show the commerce finance industryiadmin istratton education and social service of the great South American republic The second floor ends at the rear in a beautifullibrary luxuriously appointed and filled with books of reference and pictorial albums The pavilion was built entirely of materials brought from Buenos Aires and constructed by Argentino workmen according to a plan devised in the Argentine capitaland executed from the beginning under the direction of Horacio Anasagasti Commissioner General of the Argentine Republic to the Panama Pacific International Exposition In addition to the construction oT the pavilion Senor Anasagasti has had charge from the beginning of all the work connected with
