property was not included in the mortgage and if this decision should be reversed it would increase the security of the bonds It is also claimed that if a sale isjforced at this time it will result in great loss and a sacrifice of the property and petitioners ae that this sale of the property be postponed until such time as the condition ot the financial world will admit jot a sale without great without day there being no further business for the convention to transact He ordered another roll call to see if a quorum was present The delegates on Smiths side began to leave the hall so as to insure no quorum Dunne Ach and Clunie then gathered at the chairmans desk and argued with Deuprey that to force the appointment of tbe committee would split the party Deuprey was willing to refer the question concerning it to the State Central Committee The others would not accept During the confab Clunie shook his fist at Braunhart and said he could lick him It was at last agreed that tbe qnestion as to tbe advisability of appointing the committee should be referred to the General County Committee tor decision after election and until then Dennreys committee will not act Dunne made a bereaved family The funeral services will be held to day A BEAUTIFUL BOW AMONG THE DEMOCRATS Pugilists and Policemen Mixed Up on the Stage and Created a Kiot As was just and proper the Democrats reserved their pyrotechnics till tbe end of tbe convention and tbe result was a hot time last night Riot broke loose early in the proceedings over the report of the Committee on Supervisors and during the rest of tbe evening a cordon of police surrounded Denprey to protect him from bodily harm For over an hour the blue coats were clustered so thickly around the chair that a fly would have found difficulty in alighting on the person of Mr Deuprey But with a face tbe color of chalk tbe chair stuck to his post and yelled himself hoarse No such uproar was ever heard outside the incurable ward in a lunatic asylum A boiler factory in fall operation would be music compared to the din Delegates and spectators alike lifted up their voices and yelped until the roof was in danger Of raising off tbe walls Deuprey shrieked for order and sbook his hammer at tbe unruly statesmen but tbe act was like flaunting a red flag in tbe face of a ball The gentlemen onlv screamed louder and called for the roll That was ail they wanted but Deuprey would not yield Assoon as the row started General Hammond mounted the stage where he fain would have spoken but be might as well hare talked into tbe teeth of a Cyclone He waved his cuffs off in frantic gestures while Jim Smith whose readme of the report brought on the storm stood back and smiied broadly The trouble grew apace until it resulted in a free for all rough and tumble fight on the stage in which professional pueilists delegates policemen and spectators were indiscriminately mixed It was indeed a joyous affair The first encounter occurred on the floor wbere Sergeant avarms Jim Bowen and Jim Neal had a wordless battle Tbey were separated before any damage was done but Bowen afterward got a jolt in tbe eye from a blond haired young delegate whom be tried to suppress It wa the ejectment of gentlemen who wished to orate from the stage in the midst of tbe hurricane of bowls and hisses which precipitated the battle Dr Max Sicbel was first gently led into the wingsnd a moment later a sergeant towed little Johnnie Degan of tbe Fortr fourtfi out of barms way Meanwhile Jim Neal scenting the battle from afar had made his way to tbe platform Alex Greggaics followed snd Ed Greany was already in the arena When tbe police in the back of the nouse saw these preparations they started forward but were too late to be in at the start However they played a star engagement in the finish Evidently in anticipation of war two officers bad been stationed on tbe stage but they would have been powerless without re enforcementsenforcements The row started to the left of thfe speakers desk wbere somebody made a swipe at Eddie Greany He smote back and the water pitcher fell to the floor never to rise again In the excitement tbe loss of so much valuable liquid was hardly noticed With the fall of tbe water pitcher an antiquated sergeant on tbe stage closed in on tbe pugnacious Greany Jim Neal dashed into tbe fray without stopping to remove his coat and then the fun grew lively The gallery rose en masse and the delegates stood up in their chairs that tbey might better witness tbe struggle which carried the bunch of combatants entirely across the stage While a couple of officers those on the platform tackled Greany a squad of police bounded over the footlights and sur ronnded Neal Four of tbe biggest peelers grabbed tbe wiry little man by the neck and held him at arms length while he squirmed A company of Neats friends who had nastened tobe rescue were held at bay by Alex Greggains and Charley Gaeus More police arrived and Neal was quickly bustled into tbe background two or three cf the wings being knocked down in the operation Fearing that the theater was in danger of being wrecked the jinitor set Valiantly to work to clear the stage for action Before the fight was over be had removed tne entire setting leaving a battle ground large enough for 109 or more clawing Democrats But it wss all over in a few minutes Greany subsided the moment the officers put their bands bn him but Neal scrapped nobly as long as he was able to move He writhed and wriggled in the grasp of the police until his necktie slipped up behind but it was of no use The Police Department of San Francisco was too much for James Besides he did not have his gun They lugged him out into the cool bight airr from whence he soon returned as quietly as if nothing had happened He was back oa the stage and being peaceably disponed was allowed to remain Threats to kill Deuprey having been uttered the police felt It their duty to Erotect him at the rist ol their lives nder Sergeant Spillane they rallied around the chair three deep Two herculean officers with whiskers even stood on the little square platform pro vided for the chair With policemen to the right and jlicemen to the lef and all around htm euprey felt comparatively safe He was pale onto death and the perspiration trickled down his blanched cheeks But he never flinched and he faced the howl in gDernocrats with head erect Sashing eyes and distended nostrils As soon as the battle trad been stopped the rabble was chased off tbe stage into its seats In trying to seat the delegates in hit division Sergeant Bo wen received a punch Inthe IghHsye from a hot headed young man The blow raised a red lump which was tbe only damage done in the entire engagement The water pi tcher is a total loss how ever but the stage scenerywas nly slightly injured In his calmer moments the janitor explained that It was not to make room for the mill that he removed the setting It was to prevent the pieces from being torn to shreds and trampled npon A party of young Democrats oh pleasure bent played a neat little ioie on Sam Bainey yesterday One of the party called up the St George stables from the Baldwin Hotel and asked for Bainey Here is the dialogue Hello Is that Bainey Yes whos talking This is Deuprey Whor Deuprey Chairman of the Democratic convention Deuprey So not Denprey just plain Denprey Well whatlsltf We have agreed oh HcGrath for Supervisor of the Ninth ward and must have him And thats Denprey talking very doubtfully Yes I think you are lying Laughter at tbe Baldwin end gave away tbe snap and Bainey retired in disgust DE SICHELS PLEDGE Scandal Shows Its Ha In tbe Democratic Committee Wnile the uproar in the main conven tion was at its height few noticed tbe actions of the committee which had adopted tbe majority report oh Supervisors The members could not control their feelings Their efforts to secure a Board free from the influence of Buckley and Rainey had failed simply because the agents of the stable were able to con trol one member on the committee Dee gan the member ol tbe committee from the Forty first was used as Ned Lanigan desired Lanigan received his orders from Rainey and Deegan carried them out From the very outset Deegan was instructed to watch all the candidates who seemed to meet with favor He did so and Rainey found it possible to agree upon several whom the majority decided to recommend Those he could not handle be refused to accept and made tbe substitutions in Deegans minority report Rainey thus secured tbe Board of Supervisors be wished Deegans minority report was an afterthought made when all the deliberations of the committee were finished and a final adjournment bad been taken It was thus particularly obnoxious to the majority snd James Smith seemed to express the sentiments of his associates when he declared In evident disgust that the saloon board bad won He was angry and made bis associates mad Dr Sichel wss on the verge of hysterics He shouted that if a minority was going to give away the secrets of the committee he would follow suit His threat meant a great deal for the committee bad discussed its Democratic friends with an alarming freedom ol expression Charges and counter charges became so extravagant that an absolute personal pledge of secrecy was exacted from each member Dr Sichel decided to break it and as an indication of what wss going on in the secret session of the committee made public tbe following affidavit State of Calitobma Crnr tyb CorsTT or Sax Fkascisoo A McPherson being duly sworn deposes and says Remarks having been made by Thprnas Foley livery evable man on Powell street between Filbert snd Greenwich that 1 received from William Raubinger money to be used for unlawful purposes I denounce as wilful falsehood 1 never received from Mr Raubinger in my life any money except that he at one time loaned me the aum of 00 for the purpose of paying my rent ALEX McPHSESON Joss Ltoss Notary Public This does a not reveal a great deal but tbe complaining dentist says be has a great deal more which will interest the community and startle many worthy
