Carol DeMello of Triple-B Freight Forwarders acted as the elephant's travel agent for its trip here. To begin with, she booked the pachyderm on a 13-hour train ride from its home in Madras, India, to Bombay. Anyone who's traveled on a train in India can tell you it's no picnic.

DeMello then booked her large passenger on a 15-hour flight to Los Angeles on Lufthansa at least it's safe to drink the water on that leg of the trip. After arranging a short stay in L.A., DeMello then got the elephant on a short five-hour flight to Honolulu on Federal Express.
