the Mariposa wreathed in Joyous smiles and the gorgeous black and tan lava lava of the Stevensons It was Talolas first trip For two weeks prior to sailing daythe women folks In this big house among not develop alarming symptoms until after he had landed otherwise he would have been quarantined aboard the ship The steerar nasseneers were not allowed to go ashore but for some reason probably because tney naa more money to rpena tne people in the cabin were given the entire freedom of the city The sickness of his servant completely upset Mr Stevensons plans but he had to make the best of it Talola was quarantined in a native house near Sans Sonet a resort about three miles from the city of Honolulu and where the author took up his quarters As most of bis time will tie devoted He occupied a room below decks where he remained most of his time well shielded from draughts and lnonisittre people He has a deadly horror of draughts and breeses which fill his thinly clad bones When she docs this she fondly hopes to lay her hands on some part of a thousand dollars or more Five weeks ago It belonged exclu sively to her but is not now in her possession Of coarse there is a story behind all this and apparently It is the bid old one of mans duplicity and womans weakness A little over five weeks Ago Mrs Julia Jar vis was a melancholy widow who devoted her time to teaching suchr music as can be created with the use of a guitar or banjo and monrning the early demise pt the late Mr Jarris One afternoon while engaged in these occut pations there came to her studio ne amount would be considered exorbitantlf the right sort of a teacher could be found and incidentally dropped hints of a large amount of wealth which he possessed and which was stored away in what he vaguely referred to as the East Of course Mrs Jarvis became very anxious to prove herself the sort of a teacher sought for and who could blame her when the golden inducements held out are taken into consideration She assumed her most charming manners and showed Mr Parker every consideration He seemed deeply impressed and when about to take his departure promised Mrs Jarvis that he would surely call again This promise he kept and not only called once but half a dozen times Finally matrimony was discussed a wedding planned and eventually some sort of a marriage ceremony performed After the marriage Iarker explained to his wife that he intended transferring his wealth from the Cast to this city and that he intended converting some of it into a lodging honse Before doing eo however he desired to take his wife on a wedding tour and asked her if she could advance him a few dollars with which to carry this intention into effect She replied that she not only could but would and immediately handed over to him the thousand dollars or so which site hadac cumulated Then a grand tour was commenced and about every watering place from Skaggs to Gilroy Springs was visited Mrs Parker discovered that her husband had a happy faculty of changing his name At one place he woud be Parker and at the next Parks This so confused her that for a time she hardly knew just who she was but when she spoke of the matter her husband explained that lie just dldlt for a Joke Well all wedding tours must come to an end and this one dtdaxveek ago last Tuesday when the couple returned to this city and took apartments at the Buss House Until last Monday Parker was as devoted to his wife as a husband could be tut on that day he atarted out for a Walk from which he has not yet returned Neither has his baggage no his wifes money which he took with him For twentv four hours after his departure Mrs Parkerbelieved in him Then she began some investigations the remit of which changed the condition of affairs First she learned that no marriage license has ever been issued which contained the names of Julia Jarvis age past 18 and Parker age 45 Then so she says she discovered that the ceremony in which she participated was only a mock one and last but not least she was made to understand that Parker never bad a dollar in the East and imposed upon her in order to obtain her little store of wealth CEAYON POBTEAITS THE WEEKLY CHRONICLES FINE PREMIUM Splendid Enlargements of Photographs Handsomely Framed In Wednesdays Cbsosicus mention was made of the fact that the Weekly Chbomcib has struck upon a new Idea to increase its popularity and to serve as an introduction for it tothose whoare not yet aware of its com prehensiveness usefulness and superiority to ail other weekly papers of the kind published on this coast The Idea as fully elaborated was to afford every subscriber to thfr paper I or one year the privilege of securing an excellent crayon portrait handsomely framed and ready to bang on the walls of the house or bachelors The second night of the wrestling tournament was fairly well attended at Odd Fellows Hall last night The first bout of the evening was between Joe Acton and Johansen It topfcthe little Demon Just one and a half minutes to place Johansen on his back Acton did the trick with a half Kelson Alto the Indian and Dan Mcleod were the next toxome together Little Dan had his tWorkcntoutfor himi asthe Indian showed more knowledge of the science of wrestling than he was credited with There was no let up while the bout lasted and the crowd howled itself hoarse when the Indian secured a good hold of McLeod but the latter did some clever spinning to get out of a tight place The Indian tried to roll McLeod with a hammer lock but was unsuccessful owing to the agility ef the latter McLeod repeatedly tried to down the Indian with a naif Nelson but the great strength of Alto saved him time and again After an exciting bout lasting 12 minutes and 14 seconds McLeod put the Indian on bis back by a combination half KelsonKelson and arm lock The bout was enjored by all the spectators At the conclusion McLeod shook hands with Alto and remarked Well you made me work The Indian smUed but ma not answer Vincent White rolled Trojarovich the Aus irian athlete on bis back in one minute and fifteen seconds The last bout was highly amusing It was between Casey and Baknlich isey is a youngster wno probably scales 140 pounds while Baknlich welched all of 223 pounds Baknlich was strong as a giant but bis knowledge of wrestling was verymeager He grabbed Casey and threw him all over the mat like a rubber ball Casey agility saved him from several flying falls Baknlich got disgusted at his inability to throw Casey and sought the mat contenting himself by lying on the floor Casey in the meantime tried hard to roll the giant but he might as well have tried to move a mountain Finally Casey got a most peculiar bold Of Baknlich which Prevented the latter from rolling back on his stomach The strain told severely on jsakaiich ana he gave up The crowd gave Casey a great rally The beat lasted forty five minutes Thfl tftnrmnril nntirinittjiA Tnfnfr
