(Smokey) Walkowski Vincent G. (Smokey) Walkowski, 64, 917 County Highway town of Reid, died Tuesday, April 9, 1991, at his home. Survivors also include two brothers, Ervin (Eleanor) Walkowski, Schofield, and Kasmir (Hose) Walkowski, Hatley.

Kasper, 79, Superior, formerly of Wausau, died Tuesday, April 9, 1991, at Superior Memorial Hospital. He was a retired self-employed farmer. Survivors include eight sons, Martin Kasper Jr.

and Duwayne Kasper, both of Roekford, Richard Kasper, Madison, Kenneth Kasper and William Kasper, both of Superior, Gerald Kasper, Fox Valley, Harold Kasper, Eau Claire, and Joseph Kasper, Las Vegas, three daughters, Carol Kasper, Superior, Virginia Kasper, Wausau, and Terry Evans, Eau Claire; two brothers, Edwin Kasper, Hatley, and Frank Kasper, Schofield; one sister, Theresa Osowski, Mosinee; 26 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Downs Funeral Home, Superior. Burial will be in Our Saviour's Cemetery, Hatley, at a later date. Visitation will be from noon Monday until the time of services at the funeral home.

In 1950 he ran for Governor for the state of Wisconsin in the Republican Primary. In 1952 he ran in the Republican Primary for the nomination of United States Senator against Joseph R. McCarthy.

He served on the State Bar of Wisconsin, Board of Governors from 1941 to 1944 and from 1947 to 1949. In 1963 he was appointed Special Council to the governor by Govenor Reynolds of Wisconsin. He was inducted into the Merrill Hall of Fame in 1988. He was former chairman of the board and President of I Citizens Bank, Merrill. He was a member of the Veterens of Foreign Wars, Schmitt, Manecke, Donner Post and of the American Legion, Edward Burns Post, and the Knights of Columbus, and the Be-nevelent and Protective Order of Elks.

He was a member of St. Roberts Catholic Church, Merrill. Survivors, besides his wife Grace, include a brother, Anton "Tony" Schmitt; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, his parents, four brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be at 11:15 a.m.

Monday, April 15, 1991, at the St. Roberts Catholic Church, Merrill. The Rev. James Kraker will offficiate. Burial will be in St.

Francis Cemetery, Merrill. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and again until 10:30 a.m. Monday at Schram-Waid Funeral Home, Merrill.

There will be a Knights of Columbus service at 7:15 p.m. Sunday and a wake service at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Schram-Waid Funeral Home, Merrill. She had been a homemaker and a cook in the convent in Merrill. She retired in 1987. She was a charter member of the Sweet Adelines of Merrill. Survivors include a daughter, Karen (Michael) Krueger, Merrill; a son, Keith "Casey" (Judy) Jacob-son, Merrill; a sister, Mae Eta (Lorin) Jacobs, Wausau; a brother, William (Mary) Haider, Merrill; and four grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m.

Schmitt Leonard F. Schmitt, 88, 309 Mill Merrill, died Thursday, April 11, 1991, at Good Samaritian Health Center. He was born May 26, 1902, in the town of Plover Mara- Leonard p. thon County, the son of the Schmitt late Peter and Elizabeth Schmitt. He married Grace P.

Zemlika in 1932 in Merrill. She preceded him in death in 1967. He then married the former Grace R. Duginske on January 30, 1971, in Merrill. Grace is a former Clerk of Courts for Marathon County.

She survives. He attended Merrill High School. After graduating he attended the University of Madison from 1922 to 1926. He then attended the University of Wisconsin Law School from 1926 to 1928, working his way through school as a barber. He practiced law in Merrill since 1930 practicing before all state and federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court.

He was Lincoln County District Attorney from 1931 to 1937 and was President of the Wisconsin District Attorney's Association in 1935. He was a Fellow of the American College, of Trial Lawyers. He was a captain in the Army artillery during World War II serving in the European Theatre. She was born October 23, 1927, in Merrill, the daughter of the late Oscar and Edna Haider. She married Lloyd E. Jacobson on December 29, 1945, in Merrill. He preceded her in death. She had been a housewife and a cook in the convent in Merrill.

She retired in 1987. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Merrill. Also a member of the Ladies Aide, and a member of the Evening Circle.
