Disorderly conduct FOWLER, John 24, 206 N. Pacific Spencer, one year probation, $50. SHARKEY, Timothy 29, 903 Seventh Mosinee, $271. The colorful former agent, who left the CIA in 1976, is credited with capturing Cuban leader Fidel Castro's close ally Ernesto "Che" Guevara in Bolivia and was a veteran of the Bay of Pigs invasion in 1961. Hasenfus' attorneys also presented a deposition by Richard Gadd, who helped set up the supply operation with Secord and Southern Air.

He said the use of Corporate Air Services and other companies was designed to hide who was behind the supply effort. Gadd and Southern Air President William Langton decided the effort "should be treated as a clandestine or covert activity (so the) media could not attempt to trace it back to the owners and the United States government," the deposition said. Gadd said Secord directed the funds and made policy decisions in the enterprise, a major point for Hasenfus' case, who is trying to prove that the former Air Force general was his real employer. During the deposition Gadd made a reference to comments by Langton that Rodriguez had advised then-Vice President Bush of problems with the supply effort. But outside the courtroom Rodriguez, as he has in the past, said he only spoke to Bush about the operation in El Salvador, not the illegal supply flights.

Attorneys for Hasenfus and Sawyer, of Magnolia, have submitted a preliminary estimate of $3.4 million in damages, including expenses caused by the crash and lost income. Secord pleaded guilty Nov. 8, 1989, to lying to congressional investigators when he said he wasn't aware of any money that went to North's benefit from the maze of companies he used in the Iran-Contra affair. He was sentenced to two years probation, and has promised to cooperate with Iran-Contra prosecutors. a son, Edward C.

PETERSON FUNERAL HOME 1302 -6th St. Phone 845-6900 MIAMI (AP) A former CIA agent who helped coordinate the Contra supply effort in Central America testified Friday that planes were initially so ill-equipped they used Radio Shack "fuzz busters" to detect enemy radar.

The testimony by Felix Rodriguez came during a federal damage suit filed by Eugene Hasenfus and the family of William Sawyer who were aboard a C-123 cargo plane that crashed in October 1986 and helped unravel the Iran-Contra affair. Hasenfus, of Marinette, and the family of Sawyer, who died when the Sandinistas shot down the plane carrying supplies to the Nicaraguan rebels, say Richard Secord and Miami-based Southern Air Transport misrepresented their mission and skimped on safety equipment. Rodriguez testified that as he was leaving the operation in June 1986 he brought Oliver North a letter from crewmen complaining their navigational equipment was inadequate. "They hit a tree in Costa Rica because they were off course," Rodriguez said. "They had quite a lot of maintenance problems in the beginning." Over the strong objections of Southern Air attorneys, Rodriguez was allowed to testify about the primitive nature of the equipment, saying the only radar detection device aboard were Radio Shack "fuzz busters," designed to allow drivers to spot police patrol cars on the highway.

But on cross-examination, Rodriguez said that by September 1986, after he left the supply operation, he understood that flights had increased and equipment had improved. Rodriguez said that although he began helping the Contra supply operation at North's request, he was in effect a volunteer, and his real mission was aiding the El Salvador air force in combatting leftist Marathon County Out of town OLLMANN, Lori and James, Sheboygan, son, Andrew James Dean, Wednesday, July 25, 1990.
