sesslori did not close Until daylight this morning andUt terminated then In a verdict entirely exonerating the accused and deooging and unchurcblnr the accuilng elder JMcDermld The session was as sen satlonai as It was lengthy and Us ver dlcthas atlrred Elmhurst to Its depths Rankin and MluA MrRlnes were the members of the congregation on trial when the session of the Presbytery beffan Rankin Is an elder and a prominent member of the congregation past middle affe and possessed of a wife and family Miss Rlnes Is a popular young woman McDermld alleged In his charges that the two had been together far more than was aeemly and he specifically alleged that on divers occasions Rankin had not alone conducted Miss Bines to her home aftef nightfall but had lingered long at the gate The charges were absolutely dli broved It was frankly admitted that Rankin had accompanied Miss Rlnes to her home on occasions when she had no other companion when was late but no one except McDermld attached a thought of unseemliness to the fact It was proved beyond question that the relations between the man and woman were everything1 that they should have been and nothing else These things demonstrated to the satisfaction of the court that body promptly placed McDermld on trial and demanded that he explain reasons for creating such a scandal out of whole cloth and as he failed to offer an lota of proof ln support of his contentions It was promptly ad Judged proper that he be deposed from his position of honor as an elder of the congregation Further than thli and even more severe a sentence it was decreed that McDermld be denied communion with the church During the progress of the trial Rankins wife wrought upon to the verge of hysteria by the absurd yet shocking charges preferred by McDermld seised a chair and attempted to assault the latter She was caught In time to prevent her reaching MC perjnld The scandal that resulted in last nights trial and verdict has stirred Elmhurst to its very heart ever since the charges were first preferred Bym pathy haa at all times been with Rankin and Miss Rlnes and with Rankins wife arid children as none other than McDermld placed any confidence in the latters allegations treating them as ridiculous and the outgrowth of Imagination DARING BURGLAR LANDED IN CELL A Saberanes a Young Man Recently From Los Angeles
