that the entire property had been sold by Mrs Florence Blythe Mooe to Mr BTellman Antoine Borel and others whoae names are not given out This is undoubtedly the most extensive realty4 transaction from a financial view that has ever taken place in San Francisco The amountisnot stated fact Is known only to the seller and the buyers some of the other perr sdns connected with the negotiations beln as much in Ignorance as is the general publlvXtcan be estimated however from the comparative facts that In the Baldwin Flood transaction the nex In Importance to the Moore Hellman deal 34000 square feet of Market street realty were Involved and the consideration was 514J5WW while there are 64854 square feet in the Blythe bloclf including the recently acquired Sawyer lot and the condemned Brooks street The property thus disposed of comprises all of the block bounded by Market street Grant avenue and Geary street excepting three pieces They fire the Adams Klbbe parcel at the gore 6f Market Kearny and Geary street 37 on Market 20lH on Kearny and 306i on Geary street the Mutual Savings Banksite adjoining 53 feet on Market and 74 feet on Geary stret sold In January of last year by Mrs Hoore for 290000 and an irregular lot on the cornet of Grantvehue and Geary street partly covered by the former City of Paris building with 40 feet on Geary street 0 on Grant avenue and with a twenty foot I In the rear The frontages of the property sold to the Hellman sjTidlcate are 35Hi feet on Grant avenue 225 feet on Geary street and 23s feet on Market street At present the Blythe block produces an income of about 3140000 per annum which is 316000 a year more than twel months ago when in Wood building was leased for ten years at an increase from the former rental of 318000 to 23000 or nearly 2 per cent This lease might be supposed to stand in the way of improvements of a general character but it Is Intimated that it is not an obstacle which cannot be overcome er No announcement Is made by the Hellman syndicate as to whether or notiif will 5 improve the entire property or whether it will Improve a portion and dispose of the re malrider4Thepossibilltlesinthe direction of improvement are enormous1 TheBythebIock Is one of the best in San Franclscoso ar as traffic and movement are concerned Market street Is jthe great artery of the city Kearny street is Jts principal Irlbntaiyand out of Third street flows the travel of persons reaching San Francisco from the growing suburban town on this peninsula and the coast coun tlestavthe south Yet for reaeons beyond the power of the late owner theBlyhe block has fallen Into a condition even nore deplorable than that In which she found it Most of the buildings areverltable shacks the unvenerated survivors the tlnieiwhen this city was still the pioneer period There is nothing now thatstands in the way of this block being covered by the most handsome strucures in San Francisco as the purchasers are men of great wealth The location insures abundance of tenants and remunerative rents and It is fair to presume that the days when the Blythe blockihas been a disgrace to this city and an Impediment to Hhe general Improvement of Market streetwll soon be of an unreverenced past A promise of what the future may have in store is furnished by the building for the Mutual Savings Bank under course of erection on the parcel ofthellpckHold to that institution Negotiations for the sale of the property to one or mors pTsoTiaor corporations have been pending foi manjr nfonthii ifijtneof these were with capital were equal to the occasion and yesterday with Attorney A A Moore and Bartnett of Gunnison Booth Bart nett representing Mrs Florence Blythe Moore consummated one 6f the largest real estate transactions on thb Pacific Coast Thomas Blythe the man who acquired the property known as the Blythe block died in 1883 The fight for his estate which included a large tract of land in Mexico the whole being valued at 35000000 began in earnest in 1885 and was kept up by an army of claimants for fifteen years Finally tbeestate was awarded to Blythe8 daughter now Mrs Moore TDuring the litigar tipn half a Weather Conditions Will Permit Him to Send Down Somo Divers The steamer Rio de Janeiro may soon yield up the treasures which she carried under the waves when she was wrecked In the Golden Qate on the morning of February 22L Captain John Ross a veteran mariner who sailed but of this port for thirty years andwhb hasbeen in the wrecking business for ten years declares that he has located the Rib and that he has known for six weeks Where she is lying but for important reasons did not make his find known These reasons he says were three in number Other persons were seeking the wreck he did not care to show his hand until he had authority from the owners of the Rio to go to work on her and the weather conditions were such that diving was Impossible Ross has now obtained authority from a majority of the owners He filed a report yesterday with the Rio Wrecking Company by which he is employed reciting that the wreck had been located and touching on his plans for the future He did not give the location of the sunken vessel nor the depth of water sh4 Is In but merely announced that he had found her We have had the Rio located for six weeks said Ross last evening We found her by sweeping The exact loca tion will not be made known until we have coupled on to her and that may not be done for ten days Among other things we have been waiting for au thorlfy from the owners of the Rib jJow we have authority from some of the owners and we expect to get the authorization of the rest as the work progresses We are prepared to go ahead as soon as the weather permits which we expect will be within thenext ten dava The freshet from the Sacramento river is still strong but it is sub aiding and we shall be able to dive soon It has been an unusual spring we have had none like it since 1884 and the Eea in the Vicinity or tne wrecK naa Deen Itpb rough fbr work owingtbtheheavy southwest winds off shore Because of the peculiar position of the wreck we can not determine just yet what appliances will be needed in salving the cargo We Jiave been acting with isecrecy because other searchers were out but now all have given up and we ihave a clear field Although Hoss does not 8ive the depth of water it is presumed from the fact that he speaks of diving that she lying in about twenty fathoms He is positive that he has found the vessel and looks forward tor the work of salvage with the air of a man who sees nO obstacles before him What the wreclc of the Rio will yield is proDiem atical but as she carried a rich cargo the wreckers expect a big return for their labors If the vessel has held together probably many bodies will be found for although about 130 persons were drowned very few bodies came ashore and these few were picked up on the day of the wreck THE KINGS
