14. Mr. Howard It Kutchin, of Fond da Lao, has been nominated by Sir. Hayes for the Internal Revenue Coilectorsuip of the Third District of Wisconsin. His name is now before the Senate.

Mr. Kutchin, doubtless by some civil service oversight, seems to have been selected for the ohTee because of party services only. He is the editor of the Fond da Le Commonwealth and the way in which he served his country best by serving bis iariy best if that is why he was chosen maybe judged from the following leading editorial that appeared in bis paper on October 20, two weeks before election "TO ASMS, REPUBLICANS MWork to every town In Wisconsin for men not afraid of firearms, blood or dead bodies. To preserve peace and quiet avoid conflict of parties and prevent the administration of publio affairs from falling into the hands of such obnoxious men as James O.Jenkins. Every Bepublican In Wisconsin should go armed to the polls en next The Sain stacks, nouses and barns of all active itnocrats should be burned, their children burned and their wives outraged, that they may understand that the Republican party Is the one which is bonnd to rule and the one which they should vote for or keep their vile carcasses awsy from the polls.

"If they still persist In going to the polls, and persist in voting for Jenkins, meet them on tne road, In the bush, on the hill or anywhere nijilit or day, and shoot every one of the base cowards aod agitators. If they are too strong in any locality and succeed in putting their opposition votes Into the ballot box, break open the box and tear in shreds their discord breeding ballots and burn them. "This is the time for fcffectlve work. Yellow fever will not catch among the Wisconsin Democrats, so we must use more noisy and arduous, though not less effective, means. These agitators must be put down, and whoever opposes us does so at his peril.

Republicans, be at the poll in accordance with the above directions, and do not stop for a little blood. That which makes a solid fconth will make a solid North. In commending him to the Senate, the Post, of this city, says: Kotchim's appointment Is now before the Senate, and the Dens ocratlo majority there are presented with another shining opportunity. 1 Xtv Tilden and the Hew York, dec tion. tfewTork World Washington, Dec.

14. To day's Washington Herald throws out this morsel to Mr, Tutlen Mr. Tilden agents have been bossing about Washington feeling the political pule as it One of the most prominent of them said lant week that his errand was to find out exactly what was being said and thought and to report it faithfully at Gram el cy Park. He said he was not able to say, aotl really did not know, whether Mr. Tilden would be a candidate for the nomination not.

If this man tells the truth, when he Kets back to Kew York he will be compelled to re port. that almost every Democrat hereabout insists that Mr. Tilden staked his chance on the New York election In November, and 1 hat the Democracy of the country eceepted the election as the test ef his avail it UUny to lead them in 1880, and expect him to abide by the resulEsof own deliberate policy." A iTonttreh of Simple forte. King AI phonso is a sovereiun of simple tastes. If one may Judge from the report of a writer for Figaro, who had an interview with the King the day after his wedding.

Re 'erring to the brilliant pageant of the previous day, the King remarked: I do not care for those grand erenaonies at which etiquette compels one to put in an appearance. Daring the four days festivities, however, I must be resigned to my fate. And yet some people think I am infatuated with all this pomp; iney speak of me as if I were Philip II. do far from that being the ease, no sooner bad the possession tiled past than I rushed off to niy apartments and put on my wife changed hex bridal costume for a simple walking dress. We were glad to make our escape? In the coarse or further eon Tersation his Majesty said He had taken the Queen out for a walk round the city, and it was impossible to describe the pleasure it afforded both of them." King Alphonso then aid: "Affairs of State keep me In Madrid.

I have to open the Chambers and to deal with the Cuban question before the Council. All those things compel me to work, so that aui mow enjoying a few holidays. I shall soon hope, resume my active life. Nothing pleased me more than the stirring scenes of the Carllst war the life In camp the days In the saddle and the nights round the bl vouao nres."
