rSDKKOLOTHIXG. Comfort or coorenience) being of cfctef est cecbideriiticn in underclothing, liocu season to reason there are comDira-tively fw chanirea in the fashion of snaking while xho differences which appear are. for the most part, the effect temporary caprice or fancy, or the recall of suggest ion. CHEMISES. In Trench imdercJothingwhicli is now accepted as the model for all of domestic mum factum are three standard patterns for the chemise.

The most generally popular is the aacquc, or that which is gored and hallowed oat to ht the shoulders, Crawn to the necessary size by a tape ran in a easing, and the sleeves foiined on the body, or set in without gussets. Of the noer qnajiues oi xinen and cambric imported French chemises, we find the greater number of this fashion. The usual finish is of nordlework embroidery; either in a simpto overcast scallop, or a more or lees elaborate floral partem. Some of the handsomest have the front very heavily and richly wrought, with a vine and scalloped ed? around the shoulders and sleeves'; still richer and more, expensive creations. have medallions, or strips of Valenciennes or pee torchon lace set in, and a pattern of needlework lormed around.

The next most approved cut of the French chemise gores the sides, giving the waist the sacqne shape, witn the armbole alter the style of the lower half the arm hole of shirt, and slightly hallows out in the neck. The finish is a narrow band in the neek. and sleeves not Bao re than an inch deep on the top, and from two to three inches deep on the underside. This allows for gatnenng or plaiting; of the body to the band, and very -pleasing efiects are produced by clusters of plaits, or the plaits alternately with laoe or French wrought insertion. A third pattern of the French chemise gores the body, and gathers it to a yoke, which is either square and narrow all round, or shaped in an obtuse point in front, in the centre of the back, and, in some instances, on the point of the shoulder.

The yoke suggests all possible ornamentation, and needlework, medallions, and tracery of laoe insertion are employed to enrich it, in delicate and fanciful creations. In all trousseaux from Paris we find this variety of fancies in the chemises, with creations still more- elegant of the finest linen cam brio or batiste, finished with a deen yoke of Valenciennes lace, and a -flatting of lace aroand the skirt;" while tuL season, on some of the daintiest asd must beautiful underclothing sent out we find the fine, sheer torchon instead of the Valenciennes. Beautiful chemises are of cambric or very soft percale, gathered on to a mere binding around the shoulders, with a band of torchon insertion, a fall of lace set en full, below an edging aroand the seoh and lace in the armnoles, su bsti-'tutmg the usual shallow sleeves. Saoqae chemises have a yoke in front and back. ef torchon insertion; headed by a band of reinsertion, and- eo Ring, and lace in the--' aim holes, or shallow sleeves, trimmed I wita edging.

Torchon lace-is also extensively em-. Sloyed for trimming nnderolothing of omestic make; in the manner suggested in hat has been-told of the imported. We -notice, very little abatement in the use of the Hamburg embroideries and beautiful effects are secured by the intermixture of both the edging of a. Hamburg flounce, for in-stance, with torchon lace, or forming Iokes of alternate strips or the lace and amburg insertion. Plain muslin chemises, with from three to live cords stitched in the band an sleeves, may be bought loom 70 to 90 cents each trimmed with a Coventry ruffle of Hamburg edging at from 75 cents to and for more elaborate and richer trimming, at from $1 25 to $3 60; French percale chemises, finished with needlework, sell at from $1 50 up to $4 50 and linen at from $3 to $12, and when trimmed with laoe, at higher figures, in proportion to expensi veness of garniture.

SIGHT-GOWNS. The most approved model for the nightdress has the exact body of a man's shirt, the skirt gored. Across the back is a yoke, which in some instances cut in an obtuse point in tne middle of the back, hile the front is laid in plaits in the more dainty creations, clusters of very fine plaits alternating with a vine of French needlework, Hamburg Urchon, or Valenciennes insertion. The usuaL finish is a standing, or very narrow turned-over and shirt-caffs, with or without a frill of lace we have been shown night-gowns with the sleeves a little full, set to a band of laoe or embroidered and trimmed with a deep fralL More elegant creations have the ornamentation extended down the entire depthof the front dusters of delicate tucking alternate with a pattern of embroidery or insertion, and a frill of fluted lace is set on the hem and around the skirt. Fine, soft cambric and French percale are generally employed for matching; though lnxnrions taste now calls for one or more sets of linen or linen- batiste gowns.

In the trousseaux of our fashionable belles. .02 domestic manufacture there are very attractive and desirable gowns of soft cam brio and light bleached muslin, mace with clusters of tucks in front, a tucked yoke, or ornamentation of alter nate putts ana banas ox insertion. Tne price of night-gowns in our furnishing houses is irom 75 cents for the plainest article, up to $8 and 10, according to the materials uaea and toe amount of work put on. French percale and cambric gowns, witb at 25 up to $3 50, according to qual- iij; nam tor unen, according to quality aad style of trimming, the price is from $10 to $35. Frenoh drawers are all made with the yoxe-band at the waist, to button at each side, and drawn to the size oi the figure by a casing and tape across the back.

Around the hips they are of the fullness of two entire breadths, or more, of cambric while the legs, which are never longer than merely to oover the knees, are left open, or gathered to a band, and trimmed with a frill or edging. The usual finish of the Paris drawers is i of fine tucking and needlework or these intermixed with Valenoiennes or torchon insertion, and laoe edging. Hamburg insertion, alternatdngwith tucks or purling, and an edging of Hamburg trimming, are chiefly employed for trimming drawers of domestic make; while there is much use made of torchon insertion and laoe, in the place of the Hamburg. CORSET-COVERS. The latest fancy in oorset-oovers is to have them of the exact model and finish of the waist of a chemise slightly full around the shoulders, gathered to a band of needlework or laoe insertion, and trimmed with laoe around the neck and arm-coles.

They are gathered to a band around the waist, or cut so deep as to be confined under the binding of tke petticoats. -Oorset-oovers of Paris make, however, continue to be as nearly as possible of the shape of the corset, and lit so. smoothly as to add very little to the size of the waist. They are made of linen, Frenoh percale and cambric, and ornamented in Frenoh needle-work, or -with Hamburg trimming or Valenciennes or torchon laoe. Very delicate and attractive things have a yoke formed of medallions or strips of Valenoiennes or torchon laoe, set in a pattern of needlework, and a trimming of lace around the shoulders.

Corset covert are generally made with sleeves though many ladies prefer Leia without sleeves, aad the arm holes trimmed with lace oreambrio Corset covers high in the neck admit of no rrimming save an edging around the neck and sleeves, or arm holes; and no ornamentation except tncks or stripe of down the front. They are made of linen, percale, and bleached muslin. For those low in the neck, from 75 cents to $6 and $10, according to Quality are asked and for the article bign in the neck, from 75 cen rs to $2 each. PETTICOATS. Petticoats, or the short under petticoat, of French make, are generally formed of two straight breadths, set to a binding or yoke, and drawn to the requisite size in the waist by a tape set in a casing those of domestio make are slightly gored.

French petticoats are mostly finished with clusters, of tucks and needlework, more or less rich; those made-up in our furnishing houses, are tucked and trimmed with Hamburg embroidery, torchon lace, or fluted ruffles and tape points, tatting, and any trimming that will wash well is used for a finish. These petticoats sell at from 75 cents np to $1 75 of domestic make and of French manufacture, tucked and embroidered, at from $2 50 up to $8. Walking 6kirts are all gored, perfectly plain in front and at the sides, and not more than from two to two and a half yards in breadth at the bottom. For ordinary wear, bleached long cloth, stout enough to bo starch well, is used for making the finish generally being a bam surmounted by one or more clasters of tucks, with or without a ruffle set on tb bem, or a trimming Hamburg or tor-cAoiilace. More fanciful skirts have one or more flounces of cambric, stripped around torchon insertion and edged with lace, or one or more slightly full flounces of Hamburg embroidery, surmounted by one, two or three clusters of tueks.

or tucks or puns alternating with Hamburg or torchon insertion in Paris skirt, band-wronght embroidery takes the place of the extraneous trimming de DemCtrain petticoats, intended only for bouse wear or in a carriage, are made exactly after the manner of promenade skirts, save that they are about three yards in width, and the deep back breadths are drawn by a casing and tape, as seen in dresses. They are usually made of lighter muslin than skirts for wear in walking, and if for a dainty toilette, of cambric, Victoria lawn and French nainsook and the trimming is in proportion delicate and elaborate. The train skirt of the present is, in some instances, a very complicated garment. It is never more than four yards in width at the bottom. The front and side breadths are gored to perfect plainness; the back breadth is straight, full and drawn with a tape run in a casing.

The trimming then is in the skirt, and reaches the knees, in tucks, or puds anu insertion, surmounting one or more narrow flounces ol cam brio edged with torchon or imitation Valenciennes laoe, or flounces of Hamburg embroidery or, with the skirt trimmed around the bottom with Hamburg work or torchon lace, there is set on a flounce of fine cam-bno or muslin about eighteen or twenty inches deep, perfectly plain on the front, and quite full on the back, this flounce trimmed with lace, or a lace-edged ruffle, shadowing three or four narrower all' edged with lace, and set only across the back of the skirt. The design is to assist the panier or balayeuse in supporting the train of the diesa: the effect of all this lace is cer- very rich and showy. Train skirts are sometimes made on a rounaa- tiori of crocs-barred muslin or crinoline, with flounces -of Victoria lawn. French 'or American nainsook muslin. For very aelicai wear, French nainsook of stout quality is used for the foundation of the skirt, with flounces ot the same muslin of finer quality, and finest torchon, Valenciennes, Italian or Flemish laoe foi trimming.

Protnenada kiits can be bought at from 75 cents to $10 each, according to quality; dean-train skirts at from $1 25 ud to $16: and train skirts at from $2 to $20. unless very fine laoe enters into tne trimming. CBINOLIXE. We have more than once, in our notes. entered into a defense of crinoline, as nut only necessary to the gracefulness of the tourvure, but as health preservative, and an inevitable adjunct to the toilette, in consideration or neatness ana conveni ence.

Again we repeat: it matters not how greatly attenuated the stvle of the skirt drapery may be, something in the way of a bustle or still' skirt must be worn, not only to give an agreeable curve to tne lines oi tne ngure, but to supp rt the weight of the train, relieve the hips, and to prevent the slovenly dangling of the skirts around the ankles. A late improvement has been made in a patent which presents the panier, without the usual metal clasps and slides, but secured in -every part by careful stitching, so that there can be no breaking out of the -hoops, mashing, or snaDeiessness. or tne purpose understood, there is re ally no contrivance so well suited; while ladies, who seem to ue preiuaioea against tne steel-no Dea bustle, wear petticoats made of stout cross-barred jnuslin, of demi-train, or full train length, up the back breadths, and stiffly -starched. To be graceful, the nuincesse dress should cling quite closely to the figure; but it must to some ex tent be lilted from too olosely nagging uun mps. RAW UjK AH the recent trousseanx from Paris are furnished with several sets of raw silk underwear, including the night gown, drawers and They are sent out in ceil and mexique blues, rose-color, buff and corn.

The trimming is of aienciennes. toocnon or laoe. The silk washes as nicely as linen, and the garments are particularly desirable for ladies who are habitually in delicate neaitn. Vatjdry Rifles Entertainment. Bee notice.
