Real Estate Today By ERNIE SCOTT Realtor REAL ESTATE BEST INVESTMENT Jim Downes, America's foremost real estate econnmist told an audience of Realtors in Washington, D.C. that, "more people have made more money by appreciation of their homes than by any other single investment." He urged that "in spite of the present high interest rates, homes are (he tast of all types of investments for American families." He predicted that a continuing inflation in the prices of homes and condominiums will more than offset the higher mortgage money costs. The basic explanation of Ihc cause of higher and higher real estate values is Ihe age-old imbalance supply nncl demand. The less supply Ihe more demand.

The more demand the higher the price. Government policy, tight money, high interest rates and spiraling building costs will all combine to reduce building, therefore causing a shortage which will result in higher price. The only investment better lhan a home at this point in lime is Ihe ownership of Iwn homes.
