The canal corporation board meets four times a year, once in the Canal Zone and three times in Washington to set policy. A meeting is scheduled later this month in the nation's capital. Boylston, who owns the Florida Broadcasting System, headquartered in the former state GOP headquarters in Ft. Lauderdale, is state GOP committeeman from Broward. He played a key role in the highly successful fund-raising campaign for Gov. Claude Kirk, and next year is expected to actively support Jacksonville State Sen. Tom Slade for State Treasurer.

Lauderdale, Republican party power figure in Florida and Washington, has been tapped by President Nixon to help run the Panama Canal, The News learned Saturday. Boylston, who recently resigned as state GOP treasurer after helping the party to historic election triumphs last year, has been named to the board of directors of the Panama Canal Company a federal agency. Boylston's appointment may be a tip off President Nixon does not intend to give in to nationalist political pressure in Panama for the United States to give up the vital canal, Boylston told The News he opposes relinquishing the serves at the pleasure of the President, through the secretary of the Army.
