Floyd Christian said Friday as he again criticized Gov. Claude Kirk's proposed education cuts. Christian said that "letters and telegrams by the hundreds" received in his office indicate that is misreading public sentiment. he is interpreting the polls incorrectly." The superintendent quoted from letters he said he has received criticizing the Republican governor's education proposal since his budget message of April 27. Christian said that, despite the proposed cuts, now is the time for patience and that last Wednesday he sent notices to all county superintendents "asking them to urge their teachers to go slow on any form of punitive action." "I can understand and appreciate the feeling of frustration the teachers of Florida have at this particular time, but hasty, premature action not the answer," Christian said." He said that "our efforts now, as I see it, should be in support of our legislators in working to obtain as high an appropriation for education as possible." Christian spoke to the Kiwanis club here.

(A) A man whose two children were jailed beGor-cause their mother was unable to pay traffic fine filed a $5,000 damage suit Friday against three Dade County officials. Vincent J. Celano's suit in Circuit Court on behalf of his son John, 7, and daughter Madeline, 8, asked for real and punitive damages. It named County Manager Porter Homer, Sheriff Wilson Purdy and Metro Judge Gerald Klien as defendants.

The children and their mother, Sonia, were held for several hours March 29 in a "hold cell" at the county jail when Mrs. Celano was unable to pay a $75 fine imposed by Klein. Klein said he knew nothing about the confinement of the children, who left court with their mother. A deputy said he put the three in the cell because the children became hysterical at the thought of being separatled from their mother at the jail. Celano charged the children were imprisoned for no legal reason.
