Joseph's Catholic Church, Rhinelander. dramatic oratorio, "Saul," will be Jamie Schuppener, baritone; Genevieve Gersbach, Madison, soprano, and Robert Harrison, New York, tenor. All have appeared with the festival previously. Gabrieli's motet, "In Ec-clesiis" will feature an eight part chorus, eight part brass choir and a porta tiv pipe organ designed and built specifically for this performance by the Ulm Orgelwerke of Belle Plaine, Minn. A 19th century work, the prelude to Wagner's opera, "Die Meistersinger," has been included on the program to display the musicianship of the The Milwaukee Repertory Theater Company has set a new record for subscription sales during the first phase of its 1972-1973 season ticket campaign.

More than 19,000 season tickets have been purchased, with over 15,000 subscribers from the recently ended 71-72 season renewing. Renewals, at more than 81 per cent, have also set another record. MRT launched the second phase of its 72-73 subscritpion drive in mid July with only 3000 pairs of season tickets remaining. Although it has expanded its subscription capacity for the coming season to 25,000 by presenting six productions running seven weeks each, MRT could easily be completely sold out before the season opens. The season, which opens on Oct.

6 and runs through July 21, will be Nagle Jackson's second season as artistic director of the Milwaukee Repertory Theater Company, and today he announced his selection of plays that will be presented by the Rep in the 1972-73 season. Soloists have been selected for the eighth annual Baroque Music Festival to be held in Eagle River and Rhinelander Aug. 18-21. Starting from a small beginning with about 40 local musicians, the festival has grown and now attracts singers and instrumentalists from all parts of the country. About 150 musicians are expected to participate this year.

Miss Susan Blumer, soprano, and Glen Danielson, oboeist, will be featured in Handel's "Psalm 112," a cantata for solo soprano, oboe, chorus and orchestra. Miss Blumer, who has appeared in previous festivals, is a student of the noted soprano Helen Boatwright with whom she is studying in Vevey, Switzerland, this summer. Danielson, oboeist with the Seattle Symphony, has been a participant in the festival since its beginning in 1965. He will also head the wind section of the orchestra. Soloists for Handel's I OF BEST BUYS BRIDES 12 TITLED 'JESUS PEOPLE" BOOKS on boogie featuring Jagger's vocal part and some good guitar work.

"Shake Your Hips" features a echo effect vocal over a repeated chord progression reminiscent of the mid 1960s freaky rock which falls a bit flat. "Casino Boogie" is a slow thumping number, and "Tumbling Dice" is an example of some of the Stones best heavy material which has hit potential. Side two features "Sweet Virginia," a country shuffle which is overworked but which contains some nice easy harmonica work and a good saxophone solo. "Torn and Frayed" gets itself together after a ragged beginning. The group experiments with a West Indian rhythm on "Sweet Black Angel" to produce an interesting number.

The side is completed with "Loving Cup," another typical Stones number with a touch of soul. "Happy," a solid fast paced thumper which opens the third side, could be a hit for the group, as could the number which follows it. "Ventilator Blues" is a funky interesting number with a novel blues feeling. "Just Wanna See His Face" features a lot vocal under a heavy drum part for a special effect. The gospel chorus works well on "Let It Loose" to make this the best ballad -style song on the album.

Lots of energy is displayed in "All Down the Line" a thumper which opens the fourth side. "Stop Breaking Down" is a slow funky blues number, and "Shine a Light" opens with a slow, moody vocal solo by Jagger and builds dramatic tension to the chorus effect at the end. "Soul Survivor," which completes the blbum, is a typical Stones fast rocker. MRT is in the process of securing the rights to present "Sticks and Bones," and it is hoped that the Rep will be able to present this most talked about play of the current New York season. The fifth production of the next MRT season will open on April 20 and run through June 2.

MRT will close out its 19th season with a theatrical event created by the MRT company, tentatively entitled "Altogether Now. An original score will make it a new experience in musical theater. It will open on June 8 and conclude its run and the season on July 21. Coming to U.S. NEW YORK (AP) Oscar Araiz's Ballet Contemporaneo de Buenos Aires, the official company of that city, will make its American debut in New York Sept.

19. The Company, which is five years old, successfully toured Europe when it was less than two years old. It received good reviews. The company, which has a repertoire of more than 40 ballets by nine choreographers, will present six works during its New York engagement. "The Two Gentlemen of Verona," Shakespeare's first romantic comedy, will open the season on Oct.

6. The lyric and frantic love story will run through Nov. 18. Because of the universal appeal for Shakespeare's plays, and because MRT is beginning its next season with one of his most popular, additional matinees may be scheduled for schools that wish to bring student groups to the production. On Nov.

24, "Scenes From American Life," a hilarious and frightening look at the life and death of a major American city on the Great Lakes, will open. Written by A. R. Gurney the production with actors and a pianist, will take the audience from 1920 to 1984 before closing on Jan. 6.

The first play to open at MRT in 1973 will be "The Play's the Tiling," by Ferenc Molnar. Probably the funniest play by this Hungarian master, it features boudoir escapades on the French Riviera, and will run through Feb. 24. To complete MRT's series of Anton Chekhov's greatest works, Nagle Jackson will direct "The Cherry Orchard," which opens March 2 and plays through April 14. The fifth production of the season will be either David Rabe's highly acclaimed new Carlo Santana and Buddy MiUs: "Live" (Columbia: KC-31308).

This recording was made in January at an outdoor concert at Head Crater, Hawaii, and is an outstanding example of two star performers working together smoothly and expertly without losing the sense of spontaneity which marks exceptional performances. The album opens with two paced rock numbers, "Marbles" and "Lava" in which the musicians show their ability to work together with precision. The highlight of the album is the performance of Santana's Ways" and Miles' "Them Changes," bridged with a short "Faith Interlude" written by Santana and Miles. "Evil "Ways" is performed with a spontaneous feeling in the group vocals which are sung over a 'simple instrumental accompaniment. The song also features a brass section and outstanding solos by organist Santana, trumpet player Luis Gasca and saxophone player Hadley Caliman.

"Them Changes" is performed with a more direct, straightforward sound than is Miles' original version. A long instrumental section features Santana's organ and brings the first side of the album to a fast, swinging close. The second side of the album is taken up with a 25 minute instrumental improvisation by Santana and Miles called "Free from Funkafide Filth." Instrumental improvisations often tend to be rambling and undirected, but this one is very listenable as it moves through various moods and instrumental styles. Particularly outstanding are Caliman's flute and sax solos. Rolling Stones: "Exile on Main Street" (Rolling Stones Records, COC 2-2900) The Rolling Stones have never really been innovators of new styles and trends rock music, but rather play their music with a degree of talent and polish that has made them a classic group and enabled them to endure longer than any other rock group.

on Main Street" is their first double album, and while there is nothing really new here, the album does contain a lot of good material. The album opens with "Rocks Off," a typical Stones number which moves along at a steady pace punctuated with some well blended brass parts.
