ftditor Advertiser: 1 beg a small space in your paper to answer the latter at S. G. Reid. to the Republican Executive Commit tee tf 'this oounty, which yoa have pub lished. I am but a poor emancipate negro, who toiled a a slave to the best of my capacity for my master When the "war closed, and the great and glorious uepuDiioao party, declared through President Lincoln, tha martyred hero of our liberty, that slavery was dead, and the poor negroes of the South were free, it was then I began to educate myself, and try to fulfill the duties devolving on me, as a oitlzen.

To do this intelligently, and to show my gratitude, I joined the Republican party, whioh had given me all the rights I enjoy as a free man, and I defy Mr. Reid to show that he is as good a Republican as I am. He has not been in the party long enough, in my humble opinion, to spring to the front, and dictate who shall fill the offices. We have had enough of that kind of leaders, and we colored people thought when the party, was beaten last year ty suoh leaders, that we would have no more attempts from men who came into the party more for the offices than from principle The oolored people are naturally Republicans, and if let alone will vote so always. But tbey are getting tired aud disgusted with such leaders as pretend grout love for them, when they are candidates for fat offioes, but who join the Deinoorats in denouncing the "nigger" when they cannot use him any longer.

Mr. Reid says be objects to my retention on the ticket becaui-e I am a ''notoriously obnoxious person." Now, I ask him to state wherein I am "notoriously obnoxious." If being a Bepublioan and having a black skin, makes me such, then I plead guilty. The day the Executive Committee met, Mr. Beid talked with me and asked me to oome off the tioket, and said I would be paid more than I could make as a member of the House, aud offered to take me to the persons who would pay the money. I refused, because I was nominated by a larger vote than any one on the ticket.

Mr. Reid had a tie vote the first ballot, and was only nominated by one majority, and I did not think he had a right to demand my withdrawal- He must pardon me, if after hearing his speech in the Republican State Convention, I shall take issue with him, and declare that he is more "notoriously obnoxious" to all good Republicans than I am. He must excuse me if I say that after that speeoh he found Republicans opposing him; and I may be permitted to say that he wanted an excuse to come off the ticket. He told me that he, personally, had nothing against me, but some persons had objections because while 1 was turnkey at the tail a prisoner escaped. This is absurd.

The Jailor, Mr. D. Walters and myself were indicted for the es cape. Their cases were nolle prosed, and the jury, witout leaving the box, found me not guilty. Therefore I olaim that I am innocent, and will submit to no bulldozing by him or his colored strikers, who are plotting for offices in 18S0, from the Judge of the City Court down.

Mr. Rjid has suddenly become impressed with a high sense of honor among candidates. Without asking bim whether he has ever been oharged with a crime, I do charge that he supported a man for the Legislature against whom it was alleged by a prominent oitizen that he had fl id the State of Georgia to escape punishment I further charge that he has supported a man for office iu this county who hod been convicted of a crime. I agree with Mr. Beid tLat Montgomery is a Republican county, but we must cast out false prophets, and take our leaders from those white Republicans who organized the party and who to day are our truest friends, and not be controlled, as we have been, by men who came into the party for offioe alone.

When the colored people do this, then we can make Montgomery the banner county of the State, Respeotfully, J. D. Ckcmp. GALLAGHER CONXELL, (Under Asvebtisxb Offioe.) WHITE BARBERH. o31 GOOD NEWS FOR SMOKERS.

Among the appropriations granted at the last session of Congress, was one for the purpose of erecting suitable publio buildings in Montgomery. The amount allowed is 1150,000, and our citizens are indebted principally to the zeal and energy of Colonel Herbert for the appropriation. The question now is, when will the work be commenced? 'j. Vie, the candidates nominated bv tne jKepublioani or Montgomery ooun ty, for the next session of the Legislature, have conferred together among ourselves as to wnat course it is necessary to pursue id order to save our party from an inglorious defeat at the ensuing eleotion, have decided that to attempt to elect the ticket as it nowstauds.oomposed entirely of ooloredmen, would be a fruitless endeavor. We realize the importance of the election for npon the result of this oounty elec tion will most oertainly depend the fate of far more important elections that are to take plaoe hereafter.

We do not entertain any 'ears but that our tioket will receive the support and suffrage of a large number of Republicans; but we are fearful that the Democratic party will count ns out with im unless we place a stronger ticket in the field. Our ticket posseses but little intelligenceit is indeed weak, and unable to cope with, the brilliant intellects arrayed against us. We are of opinion that the Democrats will very ingeniously tace advan tage of our weakness at this time, and justify themselves in counting us out by say. ing that our party put forth such poor ma terial, that honest and faithful Republicans refused to vote for the tioket and supported the intelligent and respectable Democratic ticket By suoh sophistry the Democrats will seek to delude the colored voters.
