fjcj- In order to do juMlice to our Advertising pnt-tons, we have been under Ihe necessity, for some day past, of curtailing very materially our reading matter. The consequence is, a considerable number of selected articles of an interesting character have been crowded out from day to day, sorije of which we make room for this morning in place of our usual editorial matter. omission, by the compositor, of a Single word in thefullowjug sentence from Vne of our editorials of yesterday, gave to the sentence a meaning directly the reverse I rem what was intended. A corrected slatetneht from the Bosiob Atlas fftates that in the 2d Congressiobal district Mr. King wants between 40 and 60 votes of ah election Delaware 0.

An extra from the Delaj ware Journal, (says the National IntelligenceVJ dated on Wednesday morning, assures us that that gallant little State is true to her principles, -fend has given her vote for Hery Ct4v by a majority probably of five hundred votes. Newcastle county, formerly the Gibraltar of Locofocoism, gives a ma- joritr of 182 for the Whig Electoral Ticket. The Delaware Gazette (Loco) of the 14th (Thursday) says We have not yet received the returns from Kent county, except the vote for Governor, but as Sleek. ton beats 1 narp 20 votes ia that county, it is sup posed the Clay majority will be much larger. The success of the Whigs Delaware also se cores to that party a United States Senator, in the place of Mr. Bayard, whose term of service ex- 'pires on lbc4th of March next. IfTDiAKAT-It seems to be settled at last that Indiana has gone for Polk.

The Cincinnati Atlas of the 11th says By the returns received since onr last, if would seem that the Hooster Statsj has cast her electoral Tt tor Polk, Texas and Free Tiade. A majority of the freemen of Indiana have declared themselves in favor of the repeal of our Tariff, and in tavor of the immediate annexation of Tt-aas, and- war with exico. The repotted state of the polls are so imperfect and contradictory, that-We shall ret.ain from giving them until we receive the official returns. Maine. Maine too, is joined to her idols.

The tew returns received make it certain that the State has gone for Polk and Dallas- In Portland and the ltighboring towns, the Whigs suffered the election to 150 by default. The Abolition vote would not fall short of three fboasaod votes. The Portland Advertiser attributes the falling off of the Whig vle, to the fat that the Whig were not allowed to vote under a plurality law. The Abolition strength blighted iheir hopes, and thus here again we see Abolition lending its aid to the Texas candidate. flrj--A United States Senator lb.nged. Yesterday, when Col. Benton offered vote at the fourth ward poll, we undeistand that was challenged by a Whig, who thought (we think properly) that a United States Senator was no more than any other man in an election. The exception, we believe, was upon the ground thafthe Senator was not a citizen of the State; he, howev- was sworn, and upon his statement that he considered St. Louisas his place of residence, he was permitted to vote.

It is something singular to see representative of a State compelled to swear whether he is the resident of tbe State or not.
