Toplining will be Kirk Douglas, Yul Brynner and Samantha Eggar. "Kane," starring Sidney Poitier, has completed principal photography, but the title has been challenged by RKO, which claims the similarity is detrimental to its classic "Citizen Kane," now in reissue via Janus Films. Walter Matthau has been set as the leading man in Neil Simon's "Plaza Suite" at Paramount. Maureen Sta-pleton, who created all three roles in the tri-part comedy on Broadway, will repeat only one of them for the film, the wife of the wandering-eye businessman. Matthau will handle all three male roles, with the two other ladies yet to be cast.

KAY'S ROLE Gloria Grahame continues her screen return with a role in "The Blood Chillers. Kay Thompson has a cameo role in "Tell Me That You Love Me, Junie Moon," with Liza Min-nelli. Years ago Kay was the lady who created all those splendidly strenuous arrangements for Judy Garland, Liza's late mom, at MGM. David Niven and Virna Lisi are co-starring in "The Statue," now shooting in Rome. and "When the -Sleeper Wakes." Also on AIP's list are "Blood Sport," "Beach Bum," "Busy Bodies," "Devilday" and "Color Out of Space." The studio will utilize excerpts from 10 previous films starring Vincent Price for "Devil-day," which has to do with an actor-murderer who has been the lead in several horror movies.

Scenes from former Price movies will be used to illustrate the plot points. Warner Bros, has acquired film rights to "Clay Allison Down by the River," an original script being prepared by William Kerby. It's based on the exploits of Clay Allison, who, in the 1870s, occupied several Texas towns with a small personal army.
